Justice would be an awesome LN Which set. Maybe taking Pretty Lights spot? And maybe have Daft Punk on the What taking paul's spot? That would be a great night...
Gaaaahhh, I'll be disappointed if Bassnectar HL's...
To the Bassnectar haters...
Trying to understand how he is not praised more here:
How many times have you seen him live? Did you stay for the whole set or just walk by while at a festival? Did you see him play his own show or a festival set?
My opinion: For live electronic music shows... there is Bassnectar(7x) and then there is everyone else. His sets very tremendously which is rare. He often brings his own sound/production to supplement what's provided. Constantly mixing/remixing his tracks live. He cuts no corners to ensure the experience is top notch. When I hear things like GO HARDWELL (who pushes play) or YAY DEADMAU5(plays the same set all tour) I really wonder. For christ, bassnectar Which LN would be my dream come true.

I saw him last month. I consider myself a fan and was really looking forward to the show, But it was just meh for me. I have seen a lot of EDM acts and I don't know maybe it was me but I just didn't think it was anything special at all. I had more fun during Porter Robinsons set that was before his and I am a bigger Bassnectar fan then Porter Robinson for sure. Maybe my expectations were too high.

People who say things like GO HARDWELL or YAY DEADMAU5 are completely braindead, but that doesn't mean that Bassnectar is some sort of boundary-pushing, excitingly new and fresh alternative. It's like saying you'd rather have AIDS than get savagely beaten with a crowbar. It's still awful, just a very different kind of awful.
That's a bit of an overstatement but I'll play along.

First - where have you seen Bassnectar?
Next - What artists live show get you excited?
Every festival ever.
And do you want all the artists I think are great live, or just the electronic ones?
If you're only talking about nectar festival sets, I completely agree, it's maybe 20% better than a canned Hardwell set.
If you haven't seen him play his own show, I think it's worth a go. Of the 7x I've seen him, every festival set left me disappointing as he can't stray from his hits with a 60min set.
Solo shows are a different animal. He usually plays 120mins-180mins and can put on a patient, well executed set - getting into some stuff that is fresh/creative/artistic. EX: Red Rocks 2013 completely blew me away.
Was originally thinking just electronic, but let's talk a couple outside that realm
Orbital and Four tet are definitely up there for me as far as the best electronic shows I've seen. I've seen Bassnectar at festivals and his own show. He's nothing special.

I'll defend Deadmau5 until the day I die. Yes he tends to play the same set over a tour but don't most artists? His productions are some of my favorites and his recent songs are amazing.
Screw Hardwell and Bassnectar, give me Eric Prydz who would have no problem throwing it down for 3+ hours
It would be really cool to see a Big GrizMatik (Big Gigantic, Griz, and Gramatik together) show late night like they did at Electric Forest. Could be like an EDM Superjam. lol Unlikely but I would love all three to be there this year.
THIS!!
I want this...so bad! Big G tours with their own production/set up crew and their new show (set up) is BANANAS! If 'roo could get Big G (which I think is realistic) and Gramatik (which I HOPE for) I could see Griz making an appearance just for this. Big GrizMatik is bonkers!
In 2011 Tobin has developed a live show in support of the album ISAM fitting his criteria for a performance that is both live and purely electronic. He told Wired Magazine “The idea was to integrate myself, quite literally, into an audio and visual presentation of the album,”.[49] It incorporates the use of new video mapping techniques that are projected onto a large cubic structure from which Tobin performs. The show has been met with international acclaim described by Vice Magazine's Creators Project as "revolutionizing the live music experience".[50]
This is my BIGGEST LN hope for Bonnaroo this year!! Ah! I wanted it to happen really bad last year. I'm not sure about his touring schedule though...and talk about someone who tours with their own production!

Hoping for (ANY of): AMON TOBIN Big Gramatic (Big Grizmatik would be ideal) Flying Lotus (I thought his set in 2012 was super fun!!) He always puts on a good/fun show! Borgore DJ Shadow EOTO Griz Gramatik CHVRCHES
I'm sure it will be Bassnectar in the PL spot from last year. I understand the need for the EDM artist at Which now but its not the same as in the tents (or as it used to be). You just cant get that same sound quality that most people are looking for out of a show like that. Bassnectar would probably bring his own sound though (that is what he has been doing with his recent tour). I'd rather have Bassnectar over deadmau5 ANYDAY ANYTIME!

I don't care what he plays - his "hits," "deep cuts," whatever. His music is derivative and not very good.
Things That I Think Are Awesome Live: (please note that a couple of these I have yet to experience in person and am living vicariously through live albums/sets/videos, but would represent a massive upgrade over Bassnectar) - Four Tet - Jamie xx - Flying Lotus - Underworld - Chemical Brothers - Simian Mobile Disco - James Blake - Basement Jaxx - Massive Attack - Justice - Cut Chemist - DJ Shadow
These are things that are exciting. These are also things that are not festival retread Bassnectar.
That is a great list, and I see where you lean, I respect this list 9500% more than most electronic music fans especially the crowd that loves hardwell, knife party, deadmau5, aoki, porter, the entire trap music genre, etc.
I've seen some of them and would LOVE to see the rest, particularly chem bros. The sh*tty part about half those artists is they don't tour much.
Four Tet - good stuff FlyLo (2x) - Respect immensely, his live show didn't surpass Bassnectar's top 3 sets for me James Blake - talented. cannot compare to a good nectar show Justice (3x) - AMAZING group, seen greatness and mediocre out of them. DJ Shadow - blew my mind (opened for bassnectar at red rocks, need more shadow in my life)
Based on your tastes - I would add SBTRKT(2x) to your list. Don't let the daytime set from 2012 deter you in case it did. He's such a beast.
Personally, I would add the following to the "good and exciting" live pile: -Ratatat -EOTO -Random Rab -Boombox -Infected Mushroom -ill.gates -Tipper -Eliot Lipp -Emancipator -Beats antique

This would be a ball. Saw ISAM 2.0 in Minneapolis last year and it was pretty gnarly.
Video mapping technology seems to be rapidly advancing too. Think about the possibilities!

It appears Deadmau5 may be incorporating that video mapping technology into his new stage production he'll tour with in 2014.
EOTO(4x) /Infected(5x): Both of these are complete wildcards... I've seen really sh*tty sets by both of them but I've also seen amazing/memorable sets. IMO they still fit into "fun and exciting" as I would choose these 2 over 95% of electronic music present at any bigger festival. As per the wub wub - I'm with you, it can get tiring with EOTO.
Misc: Destroid and/or Excision and Downlink, Boregore, Feed Me, Jack U, Kill Paris, Crizzly, Jack Beats, Flux, Birdie NamNam, Dog Blood, Dillon Francis, Girl Talk, Diplo, Opiuo, Koan Sound, Noisia, Kill the Noise, 12th planet, Rusko
Unlikely: Boards of Canada, Daft Punk, French Kiwi Juice
Artists in bold are my picks for 2014!
Maybe check and see how many shows BoC have played in the last decade. Then Google "Boards of Canada" and "festival" to find some comments they've made about how they don't like the idea of playing at a festival.
And aside from BoC, TNGHT, Justice, FlyLo and Daft Punk this is a terrible list. Why the hell is FlyLo "jamtronic?"
Fly lo appeals to the hipster electronic fan like yourself, the same people who are more into the jamtronic scene. IMO he doesn't really fit into any other category as he is not the typical EDM fist pumping artist we so commonly see today. Unfortunately for you, not all of the EDM acts at Bonnaroo are going to be the chill type that you are into, so please don't call my list terrible when I was just listing popular artists that tour a shit load.
And yes, I know Boards of Canada will not be at Bonnaroo, that is why they're categorized as unlikely.
Why does everybody keep saying Hardwell? Yeah he has a few good songs but he sucks live. He does not put off the same energy that his music does. For me, it's not about if they have good music, the artist has to perform well also and have some crowd interaction. Steve Aoki may be mainstream as hell but atleast he puts on a show.
I really enjoyed his set at Forecastle a couple years ago.
I saw him at Buku this year and he was great. I have literally NEVER seen/ heard of someone seeing a bad set by Daedelus. He is such a nice guy too and he's extremely intelligent. His music is so refreshingly complex while still maintaining the ability to dance to it!! Dare I say he is my favorite live DJ...

You and I have different definitions of "putting on a show"
