If anyone is interested in a free ticket to Music in the Middle PM me and let me know. It is this weekend near Woodbury TN (east of Murfreesboro), and is two nights camping and 100 or so acts. It is taking place at Short Mountain Distillery, so there are also some undefined Moonshine events. I can get a reasonable number of people in free so hmu if you are interested.
We all stayed until Monday morning and had a fantastic time. You could bring your own beers in, most of us got upgraded wristbands so we could go backstage, there was never a crowd but it was obvious they spent a decent amount of cash on the production. The five of us pretty much just raged hard all weekend. Considering no one paid for a ticket we all thought it was a damn good festival, I would go again if they do it next year for sure. The only downside was a lack of food vendors, and some inconsistencies on the alcohol situation but overall I never ran into anything glaringly wrong.
I would say overall that the biggest problem was that this festival was a ticket sales flop. No one was there, seriously, it couldn't have been 1000 people, probably closer to 600 - 700. the production value was there. You could tell they spent a lot on the venue. The venue itself was a really cool set up. There could be a great music festival on that property if something can be done about attendance. Advertising (or the lack thereof) would make a huge difference. Just one big name recognizable band, to boost advertising and attendance, could really help this little start up festival out.
The schedule was all f'd up too. The people who worked it didnt know what was going on (but really is that any different than any other festival out there). They were all very uninformed. I was supposed to get media passes, but myself, my wife and our friend that came with us all ended up with all access passes because the guy didn't know what color to put on us.
The reality is, with so few attendees, this festival was a good as you made it. I had a great time. I got to get away from work and reality for 3 days and camp with my 2 most favorite people in the whole world! Heard some pretty good music (and some pretty crappy music as well). the Lasers in the forest were cool (do something about the dust up there). Laser tag was cool. Did anyone ever see snow machines? We never found them.
Hopefully, due to the location and time of there year, they can work out some of the problems and have this again next year. Note to MIM people, hire private security. The real cops rolling around in there all weekend sucked probably worse than anything else.
good times overall though, once again, what you make it!
