Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Their most recent appearance in 2012 was a major part of the single greatest night I've ever had at Roo. They came on at 2:30 and played until 6 in the morning. From what I recall, there were covers of Thunderstruck, Bulls On Parade, Breathe (Pink Floyd), and even a jam on Stranglehold. They played a few of my personal key Umph jams (Ringo, Pay The Snucka, Hajimemashite) and also killed a few of their usual showstoppers. It was unbelievable and I'd love to see them back in a Late Night slot. In my opinion, they're the ultimate Roo late night band.
I just wanted to put this thread out there for any other fans to post new videos, discuss new tour dates, talk UMBowl or anything else Umphrey's-related. There's definitely plenty of Umphrey's fanatics on this board. I know other people love to hate on jam bands on here but lumping them in with your stereotype jam bands would be blowing these guys off. One of the best shows you'll ever see.
Considering they've played like 7 out of the 12 bonnaroo's, and return just about every other year... yeah I'd say they are pretty likely. But don't count on another latenight.

I'd welcome them back for sure. I saw part of the '12 set, and saw them like 3 weeks ago in Pittsburgh which was sweet.
And I feel like they have to play late night, it wouldn't feel like a Umph show in the daylight. I mean I know I don't make the schedule, but if I did I wouldnt schedule them before 2:00 a.m. on the farm.

they don't always get a LN. Who knows if they even want to play a LN every time, the expectations are always so high, and I'm sure there is a significant physical toll, thinking of Kris particularly.
A good compromise would be the Conspirator slot, give them 90+ minutes in The Other Tent right before the headliner, so they are playing as the sun goes down.
I do hope they play. Took me years to get into UM but now I think they are the most exciting live act around.
Last year I saw Joel at the McLaughlin set. Spoke to him briefly between songs, nice dude. Also chatted with Waful last year at Jazzfest, also very friendly and gracious.

One of my bigger regrets from 2012 was not sticking around to see at least some of their LN set. It was my first Bonnaroo, and I didn't pace myself or get a nice nap (I know, I'm soft) during the day at any point, so I went back to camp after The Word. If they're back, I'll make sure to catch them.

If they aren't playing a late night set, I feel like a main stage daytime performance might be the logical next step. I know others feel that way, too. I could see them in the saturday afternoon Mule slot from this past year.
I could also see them (fingers crossed) doing multiple sets, but that's a stretch.

Its interesting you mentioned Conspirator, because I thought they deserved better than the set they got last year too. I was looking forward to a late night set after the lineup dropped, hell Bonnaroo even used their music for the late night episode of the "Bric a Brac" series they did for Roo365. Then they gave them a Pre-Headliner set against some of most respected names on the bill.
With UM I agree with Boston Powers, I could see them playing an early afternoon set on the main stage, ala Mule or Trombone Shorty but I would prefer a late night set. Not saying it has to be a 4 hr sunrise set, give them 2 hours as the first late night and put someone after them. And I feel like giving them 90 minutes at the Other Tent at 7:00 pm is a waste and insult to them. I wouldn't go to it, they tour often and I could see them in a small venue up close for $35 and they'll play two full sets.

Like you I was also looking forward to a LN Conspirator set, but I was happily surprised at how well the Other Tent set worked out. It got me super pumped up for the headliner, then I run over to the What field and BAM Paul McCartney, it was an exciting set of back to back sets for me. So I think it would work well for UM. If I had a choice between What/Which afternoon or tent sunset, I'd take the tent.
But a midnight to 2am set would be welcome as well.
Really I just want them to come back to NOLA during Jazzfest.
If they play this coming year, they'll probably get mid-afternoon Which stage like they got in 2008 and 2010. They haven't really grown or waned in popularity in the last 5 years, particularly with the festival crowd.

Maybe not with the festival crowd, but I don't think it's fair to say they haven't grown at all. I saw them 5 years ago at a 600 or so capacity ballroom; the next time they came to New England was at the House of Blues, ~2000 capacity, and the time after that they played a 5,000 seat amphitheatre. Their star is rising, albeit slowly.
That said, as awesome as their sunrise marathon set was last year, I'd prefer if Roo mixed up their late nights a bit and held off for another few years.

They also sold out the Beacon in January which is a record NYC crowd for them I believe and they're playing 2 nights there this upcoming January.

I'd certainly prefer late night but if they played the main stage... Well let me put it in perspective. It would be one of my longtime favorite bands finally playing on the main stage at my favorite festival/place on earth. It'd be a nice moment for me.

you've got an excellent point actually.
so all these arguments basically prove to me i want umphreys at bonnaroo, and no matter when/where they play it will be awesome.

As it stands I am definitely making the Mobile and NOLA shows, and hopefully Birmingham.
Already announced Ft. Lauderdale on Thursday. And just a fun fact, they we're supposed to have a multinight run at the GATH but the Master's threw them a bunch of money for just one show. Regardless I'll be at Chatt, Knox, Winston-Salem, Willmington, Charleston, Augusta, and Athens. Maybe Bham.
