Saw this video/article today and thought i'd share with you fine folks. The amount of destruction these storms cause is insane. Don't think I'd be able to keep the camera rolling during a tornado.

The tornado footage in the OP happened 3 miles from my house. Over 500 homes were completely destroyed. Several people I know have lost everything. The outpouring of support from the residents of Central Illinois has been amazing. Even people from outside the area have pitched in....the Washington High School football team, who are in the state playoffs this Saturday, are being picked up by charter bus (fans too), fed and sent home with necessities, all provided by the generosity of their opponents. Fire/police depts from cities in other states have been placing carryout orders at local restaurants to feed the weary emergency responders.
Wouldn't it be great if every day, we treated others the way we tend to do after a disaster?

Lono FB messaged me the other day saying he was in the path of the twisters last week. He could not find a ditch but fortunately was able to survive it.. his only option was a highway underpass. Very happy that story had a happy ending.

Glad to hear you're ok! It always amazes me as well the way a community can pull together in the aftermath of a disaster. And agreed that life would be much better if we could have that sense of community in everyday life.

Thank you! I was in Nashville when this thing struck. I had originally planned to leave on Sunday to head north, but had read about the possiblity of severe weather throughout the route I would travel. I'm glad I chose to leave Monday, because a tornado also hit the small town of Brookport, Illinois (just across the river from Paducah,Ky) on Sunday at the time that I would have been driving through. My house was spared the tornado, just had a few trees come down and shingles blown away.....more firewood and just a bit of repair....no worries

We had one cut through the south of my town. Luckily only one farm, an auction house, and one trailer were destroyed. Stuck mostly to farm land and wooded areas. And another destroy a town about 10 miles north. Those things sure are efficient.
One blew through back in 2011 about 20 miles from here, was on the ground for nearly 40 miles. About a 35 minute drive away from here in the town of Brimfield, Mass., you can still see a swath a half mile wide where the tornado tore up everything. Perhaps even more than a half mile wide there. Unheard of for New England.
