I have seen Skynyrd in their original incarnation multiple times. I was there at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta when "One More for the Road" was recorded. You all are correct. This is practically a cover band. I'll probably go, sing along some, play some air guitar and air keyboard and get back to my redneck roots but then again I might hang out at camp or whatever.
They also did some kind of concert with Sean Hannity and a bunch of teabaggers a couple of years ago.

It's not your mother's Skynyrd, kids! LOL
my parents were there the night before the plane crash.

After giving the skynyrd thing some time to process, I actually like everything else on the lineup. Tab, blues traveler, TTB, mule, umphs, moe, soulive, dumpstafunk zeppelin, Melvin seals and JGB. Should be a good time.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
The good news is the Skynyrd website has them in Live Oak on Thursday and in Orlando on that Saturday so I'm guessing they won't be hanging out all weekend.
My first look at the lineup had me thinking it was pretty mediocre at best, but the more I look at it it get's me pretty excited. I was pretty floored when I saw Skynyrd on a lineup, but just like Unchained, it's only one name/band. Still hoping for another major jam band type add, but there is still plenty for me to enjoy.
In continuing my philosophy of embracing the moment. I will be at Skynyrd and I will yell Freebird. Really, how many times in your life is that acceptable behavior?

can you believe that Freebird was the theme for our fraternity dance when I was a senior in high school? LOL. (yes, we had fraternities and sororities in my high school). The song incorporated both dance styles common among 1970s high schoolers...the stumbling around the floor clumsily locked in an embrace slow dance and the utterly spastic "I'm growing into these limbs and the world is mine" fast dance. Back then Molly didn't come to dances. Only Mary Jane and Jack Daniels.
That's a fact. Maybe they will at least be merciful and stick to the covers. Though I'm sure the confederate flag flyers in attendance would enjoy some Johnny originals.
I did see The Rossington-Collins Band back in the day before they decided to cash in and go back to calling themselves Skynyrd. It was pretty good. They did an instrumental version of Freebird that rocked.
