I'm going to be working in Indianapolis for 2-3 months and I'm wondering if anybody knows of some sites or anything that can help with keeping up with shows in town. I would also like to see some live music in Chicago, if anybody knows where to look. Thanks!

Well, for Chicago, I'm mostly subscribed to the different mailing lists. You can just do and advanced search on jam base or sign-up for the email lists. If you want most of the venues just let me know and I'll PM you links.
www.jamusa.com is good for most club shows for more well known artists. If you're looking for the really small venues (500 person or less capacity) you have to go to the individual websites of each venue or follow them on Twitter.

Monster, go to the Empty Bottle on Western Ave in Chi. It's legendary, cheap & grimy. Metro is a must, Clark St Wrigleyville. Schubas on Belmont is intimate with good sound. My fave spot is the Hideout, for Bloodshot-esque bands, which cab drivers can barely locate. I'm doing a show or two in Indi this winter, will let ya know which.

I figure I will be cold and bored, so please let me know.

There's a small joint called Martyrs' in Chicago that's legit. I just saw "this must be the band", a talking heads tribute band, it was a damn good show.
Check out My Old Kentucky Blog. They promote a bunch of small and indie acts for the Indianapolis area. Also keep an eye on The Vogue and The Egyptian Room and Murat Theatre at Old National Centre. That's where most of the club sized acts will play in Indy. A few other places to watch are Birdy's, Klipsch Music Center, Radio Radio, and The Lawn at White River State Park.
There's a lot of good music that comes through Bloomington, but not so much in Indianapolis. My husband and I end up going to Cincinnati, Newport, or Louisville for shows. You can try Bogart's or the Taft in Cinci, Southgate House in Newport, or Headliners in Louisville. We've caught a lot of good stuff at all those clubs.
After delaying the trip since Sunday due to the weather, I'm going to attempt the drive tomorrow. I've got my truck in tip top shape for the drive and I packed all of the cold weather emergency essentials. If it gets too bad on the road ways, I will just check into a hotel and wait another day. I wish I didn't have to push it, but I am so behind on my project up there. Anyway, it will be checking out area shows soon. I think I saw that Skeletonwitch is playing around there somewhere.
The Magnolia Co show on Fri could have crazy guest vocalists, like Will Bonnie Prince Oldham and is supercheap. Same goes for WitchSkeleton on Sat, minus Billy. Im shootin fer both.
I am on the North side, which is the most intensely suburban place I've ever been (But still in the city of Indianapolis). Not to mention, the most snow and worst weather I have ever seen. Seriously, I'm a little freaked out about it all. Beer and rock n roll were calling my name earlier, but when I got on the road, all cold rain, ice, and gridlock traffic. When things clear out and I get acclimated, it will be time for me to venture out. Until then, have fun out there.

monster bitchh- I'm in Broadripple, near north, staying with a few friends. We'll be watching playoffs with plenty of great food and drink if ya wanna venture out. Can't get anyone excited about a $40 cab to catch Skeltonwitch. Life's a bittch.

So Monster was brave enough to come out a drink a few at my friends place. Real nice guy. We watched some great live Hee Haw sets and talked how weird some of you guys are. I made a baked wheel of Brie stuffed with bourbon-apricot compote and encrusted with almonds, pecans and brown sugar. He was leery of this fromage monstrosity at first, then proceeded to inhale a few pounds. Should be shittting again sometime later this week.

Great hospitality and generosity from Whore Shack & Crew. I can't stop thinking about that brie. So amazing.
