So after 5+ years of wanting to go I finally turned 18 and got my wristband during the pre sale! My mom was worried about me going by myself so I asked my stepdad to go with me. We're taking an RV so that should be be nice.

For the last 4 years I've camped with my friends and their mom. She is amazing. Always kept us fed with more than just the bread and pre-cooked bacon we survived off of before camping with her. Then, last year, my parents got a one day pass to see Paul McCartney, and I absolutely loved hanging out with them for the day.
I think it all depends on the parent. Do you guys get along well? Is he super protective, or fairly laid back? I think his attitude going into it is going to be a big factor on how much you enjoy yourself.
Are your friends going to be there, too? Set up a gameplan ahead of time with your stepdad about going off with your friends at times, or whether he wants to be with you always. Either way can work just fine, as long as you're not wanting to see different shows at the same time.

I think if your step-dad is cool enough to get an RV and even consider going to Bonnaroo, then you will be fine!
I took my daughter (and her friends) with me from the time she was 14, and by the time she was 17, I pretty much let her do her thing, as long as she checked in with me every few hours and slept at our campsite. Of course by that time, she knew her way around etc. so I didn't have much problem with letting her go experience it without me. Maybe you could have your step-dad read Inforoo, so he knows that people really do watch out for each other and it's a great community. And of course read all the threads about what to do, what not to do, how to survive the heat, etc.
As most everyone else said just read the threads here to get prepped and have your step dad read up as well. I see plenty of teens at 'Roo with their parents and I can't wait until my kids are old enough to come with me. Just set out a game plan for how you want to set up your days (easier once the schedule is out) and go from there.
last year was my first roo and it was mind blowing I went with a group of 12 and my father came a day later. it was quite the bonding experience although I didn't spend the whole time with him, with the right mindset from the both of you and both know what to expect the journey will be one to repeat year after year.

Have your step-dad read up on up on here. I went with my friends when we were 18-19 my first time. At no point will you feel unsafe when you're at the festival so make sure to do your own thing when you can. Don't take flack from your friends, too bad their not going you'll have a great time.
Believe me, it's worth the wait. Last year was my first Bonnaroo and by reading all the first timer advice threads in this forum, I was able to have an awesome experience and had just about everything I needed. You definitely wanna read those threads. I made a list of must haves, things it would be nice to have, and things you can't have, so I knew what I needed to bring and could better prioritize. Have a great time! We'll see you there!

Hey guys, this is my first year going to Bonnaroo even though I live up the mountain 20 minutes away. I am 17 and I'm splitting a VIP pass with a friend from Nashville. I have alot of other friends camping in GA, can VIP people go party in the GA campgrounds?

VIP can go anywhere (as far as the campgrounds, just explore its fun). But I don't think your ga friends can go into VIP with you.

A one day pass??
Last year they had a one day shuttle pass. You had to get on the shuttle in Nashville, they drove you down, then took you back. Missed morning stuff and late, late night stuff (think the shuttle left Roo at 3am), but it was a great way for people who didn't want to commit to a full weekend (like my folks) to experience the love.

first time going to bonnaroo this year and just signed up here on inforoo. not sure where this would go so i'll just post/suggest it here. is there something called 'roo radio' to where u can turn on a radio and get the music being played at any stage on ur car/portable radio? I've heard this somewhere to where they to some type of radio to where u don't have to leave ur campsite and can just turn on ur radio, everyones radios where turned to the station so it sounded like they where playing all over the park? Is this true?

I'm a parent that went the first time (2008) with my son and two of his friends. I found it surprising to learn later on that they felt guilty about "ditching" me to see what they wanted when it didn't interest me. We have now been to three Roos together and I went in 2012 without him. I think he's gotten past the guilt and any embarrassment about being with his dad. We always went our own way. Sometimes it's the same way. As long as your stepdad enjoys music and is open-minded you should both have a great time separate or together.

2014 will be my first Bonnaroo experience. Luckily for me, I'm heading there with my best friend Garth, who is a 2-time veteran. I've heard all the stories and all the unforgettable memories that Garth had, and I've finally going to pull the trigger and make the trek in June.
I nearly went last year, but my fear of the possible crowds prevented me from buying my ticket. I get sometimes get anxiety when I get into big crowds, but over the last year or so I've slowly shed this anxiety via attending concerts and sporting events. Regardless, I'm so pumped and anxious for June to roll around.
2014 will be my first Bonnaroo experience. Luckily for me, I'm heading there with my best friend Garth, who is a 2-time veteran. I've heard all the stories and all the unforgettable memories that Garth had, and I've finally going to pull the trigger and make the trek in June.
I nearly went last year, but my fear of the possible crowds prevented me from buying my ticket. I get sometimes get anxiety when I get into big crowds, but over the last year or so I've slowly shed this anxiety via attending concerts and sporting events. Regardless, I'm so pumped and anxious for June to roll around.
My husband HATES crowds! Like this man won't even go to the grocery store because its too compact with too many people (aisles, carts, ect)...but I will say Bonnaroo has never been an issue for him! Of course, the tents and shows can get packed but we are those people who tend to stick to the pack. Not saying that we stay WAYY in the back, we just need some room to breath and dance, of course. I think you will be surprised with how much space (for lack of a better word) you will have at Bonnaroo. Anyways, GOOD LUCK and ENJOY!!

I have had a few of the anxiety moments in the past few years, and it is usually very easy to get out of the crowd and find a quiet spot, even if it's at the back of a show instead of up front. I've done it a few times, and once I am out of the mass of people, I am fine. So don't worry about that part! Most of the people I know with crowd anxiety, somehow manage it well at Bonnaroo because they are having so much fun

I think you'll be quite surprised at how nice the crowds are.
Last year we ended up playing spades and other card games with total strangers, had a blast crowded at shows.
If you need to get out (have a friend with PTSD who refuses to go), most folks will understand, if not drop everything and help you. The farm is generally a very happy place.
i know i am not alone when i say, that i am very very jealous of all you first timers, That first night is just completely magical
You may not know what the arch is right now, but i guarantee you will never forget it when your standing in front of it. and I'm not talking bout its physical appearance.

So 2014 will be be my first Roo experience. I almost feel like I haven't earned the right to call it "Roo" yet. But I will be attending with my friend Will(whasty), and he's been to Roo a few times before. For as long as we have been roommates(just about 4-5 years now), I have always heard of the Bonnaroo lore and I want to be a part of it finally. I can't wait to meet people from all different parts of the country and just chill as "one" group. I just had knee surgery do hopefully I will be in good enough condition to participate in everything I can. Thanks to all the vets and I hope us newbies are going to get everything we expect!

First time for me. I'm taking my son and two of his friends as a HS graduation trip. Anxious about the ticket buying process.....Do I need some sort of MusicToday account? I believe I read on some older thread somewhere that people were trying to remember their login/passwords for their MusicToday accounts to make the ticket buying process faster. Just wondering if I could/should set up an account now so I'm all set when tickets go on sale tomorrow.....
