My first time going as well. I'm 20 now and for the past 2-3 years I've been wanting to go but kept running into money difficulties and scheduling. This year however I've just seemed to hit a point in my life when I really think the bonnaroo experience everyone speaks of would be good for me and so I've decided to either buy a ticket or volunteer. Either way nothing is keeping me from the farm this time!

Also, a first time attendee. Been going to Coachella (I live in SF) for the last 5 but the lineup was crazy weak this year and I'm on a business trip in Chicago from Mon - Thurs the week of Bonnaroo so it seemed like it was the best time to check it out.
So after 5+ years of wanting to go I finally turned 18 and got my wristband during the pre sale! My mom was worried about me going by myself so I asked my stepdad to go with me. We're taking an RV so that should be be nice. I'm taking some flack from my friends for going with a parent... Has anyone ever gone with a parent? Also, Any advice for a "Roo"kie? Get it? Haha.
Thanks in advance! ^w^
Taking family to Roo is the best - it's becoming a sibling tradition in my family and my husband's and I would love to take my parents one year. You're going to love it! Stay hydrated and wear comfy shoes. Other than that, you are already in the best place to get all the tips you need!

I was 18 at my first roo in 2006, I was completely unprepared but was blessed to have three of the best friends to share the inaugural experience with. I remember driving through the festival that first Thursday night and before I was even out of the car I felt like I was already returning to somewhere I had been before. I can't wait to enjoy my fourth year and my first year in VIP Welcome to all the first timers, we are all going to have an incredible time!
2014 will be my first Roo as well! Going with a mostly vet crew. I cannot explain how pumped I am! Same situation as some others that have posted. Been wanting to go for a few years now, and this summer just seemed to fit with me not taking summer classes for the first time in a while plus I'm currently on an internship which gave me the finances!
AAAANNNNDDDD I'll turn 21 a few weeks before Roo so it will be the first big event to (legally ) drink at!

Old person moment: A little booze goes a long way in the Tennessee heat! Rant over. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!

Eh, I had the same old person moment, and I'm not even old. "Don't get wasted at 'Roo", said my brain.
Of course, everything from my 5th drink on the Friday of my 21st birthday, through the Sunday morning when I woke up on a park bench 30 miles from where I started drinking, is something of a blank. One of those "do as I say, not as I did" type of moments.

I appreciate your concerns and advice. I'm not saying I'm getting totally wasted when I get there, just expressing my excitement of being of age and Bonnaroo being a place where I can enjoy & celebrate that.

For sure. I don't really take my own advice, so all I can do with it is give it away
If you run into two people who look like Hunter Thompson and Oscar Acosta, feel free to ask for a martini.
Hey guys, this is my first year going to Bonnaroo even though I live up the mountain 20 minutes away. I am 17 and I'm splitting a VIP pass with a friend from Nashville. I have alot of other friends camping in GA, can VIP people go party in the GA campgrounds?
VIP can go anywhere (as far as the campgrounds, just explore its fun). But I don't think your ga friends can go into VIP with you.
Technically, GA folks can't get into VIP camping, but as long as you're with someone in VIP camping and you're kinda discreet with your wristband, you can just walk in. One year my friend was in VIP and I just tied a bandana around my wrist over my wristband and walked into VIP with her. It worked several times.

First timer here, but wondering if some of you Veteran Rooers can put my mind at ease. I've been to lots of shows and local festivals but this is my first festival that has such a high attendance like Roo. I have this weird (maybe OCD?) fear about people behind me at shows opening my backpack, taking things and I don't feel it. I know it sounds irrational but has anybody ever seen this happen? Wasn't sure where else to post this.
I've personally never seen it, but a trick I used when living in Europe was to take a caribiner and attach the two zippers. It's just one more thing the mess with that you'd ultimately feel. Or, really think about what you'll need in Centeroo and maybe you can reduce what you're taking in. I bought a fanny pack in hopes of only being table to take that. I carried a backpack in 2012 and it just becomes a hastle and then you have a really sweaty back. There's. Thread about backpack content on here which could be helpful for you too.

KushPicasso: This will be my first time at Bonnaroo, but I have been to Lolla. From what I've heard, the crowd is even less friendly at Lolla than at Roo, and I never had a problem with people snooping in my Camelbak. That said, I don't keep anything important in my Camelbak. Just snacks, meds, ponchos, etc. I'd keep your wallet, phone, and other valuables somewhere more secure that you can keep an eye on easily. Be smart about it, and you'll be worry free.

First timer here too. A friend and his dad are joining me on Day Two. A four day fest would be too much for my dad's arthritic bones, but I've seen plenty of shows with him (many where he was definitely the oldest one there) and I'm glad that I get to share them all with him.
