6 bucks for this February 13 show at Mercy Lounge.
In the era of 1950’s-1960’s Second-Wave feminism, it was music of The Girl Groups (The Ronettes, The Shangri-Las, The Crystals, etc.) that defined the sound of popular music. It was music that gave voice to the challenges and dreams of women, made international superstars out of many – particularly women of color – and united America during the Jim Crow and desegregation years.
Inspired by the significant roles these women played during this era of our musical heritage, “She’s A Rebel: A Girl Group Tribute” concert will take place on Friday, February 13th 2015 in Nashville, TN at The Mercy Lounge.
Era specific attire welcome. Bee-hives! Suits! Dancing shoes mandatory. Couple up! Shake it down! Romance strongly encouraged. Slow dance! Embrace!
There will be a rotating cast of lead singers, horn and string players; and a three-part harmony section! Special guest stars include:
Caitlin Rose Jasmin Kaset Alanna Royale Tristen Gaspadarek Adia Victoria Lauren Gilbert Kyshona Armstrong Alicia Bognaanno Luella "The Gambler" from The Protomen Coco Hames Carey Kotsianis Robin August "Little Bean" Fritsch Kelli Kvarnes Larissa Maestro Jessie Friedman Beth Cameron Margo Price Emily Deloach Olivia Scibelli Sarah Bandy Ellen Angelico Jordan Hamlin Alice Buchanan Brooke Ivey
The house band for the show will include Jessi Zazu on guitar (Those Darlins), Tiffany Minton on drums (Adia Victoria/PUJOL), Nikki Kvarnes on guitar (Those Darlins), Laura Taylor on bass (Take The Power Back), Ruby Rogers on percussion (Adia Victoria/Black Belles) and Heather Moulder on piano (Rhythm Kitchen/Don Coyote).
What do I need to know to keep up with who's playing in Nashville?
I am signed up on email lists for all the area venues. Ryman, Bridgestone, Mercy Lounge, 3rd & Lindsley, Exit Inn, etc. and also have most of them on my Facebook. I listen to Lightning 100 and they always have ads and talk about all the live shows. And make sure to have all the local Inforoo people on your Facebook!!
They tell us "Rock'n'roll is the devil's music." Well, let's say we know that rock is the devil's music, and we know that it is, for sure … At least he fuckin' jams! If it's a choice between eternal Hell and good tunes, and eternal Heaven and New Kids on the fuckin' Block … I'm gonna be surfin' on the lake of fire, rockin' out.
Pollstar is always good. Here's a list of shows in Nashville I am going to (starting Mar. 25): Father John Misty, Dr. Dog, The Mountain Goats, Alt-J, Polica, The Decembrists, Ryan Adams, Death Cab For Cutie, The Kooks, The Who (maybe, I haven't actually gotten a ticket yet), Blue October. That's through mid-May and is a pretty good run of shows (at least to me, obviously).

I would keep an eye on The Ryman Marathon Music Works Exit/In City Winery Cannery Ballroom/Mercy Lounge/Hi Watt (All the calendars are on the same page. War Memorial (Good shows sometimes awful venue) Bridgestone arena (Good shows awful sound) TPAC 12th and porter (I rarely go but it has good shows)
If you are into smaller acts let me know and I can get you a list of the smaller clubs

Unfortunately I think 12th and Porter is closing. Also, 3rd and Lindsley is also a good place to keep an eye on. And City Winery

Damn!!! I have seen some epic shows there over the years, but the highlight would be 12 dollars for the last Ramones tour when Joey was alive.

Yes, I do like smaller acts. If you know of any garage/punk bars, I would appreciate you letting me know what those are.

There's a place called Betty's Grill in West Nashville that has music every once in a while.
My boyfriend is in to the "metal scene"... but there's not much of a metal scene in Nashville, so most play small/grungy places. Springwater and The End are two of the more popular places, but there are some smaller places scattered around town.

I purchased tix for Father John Misty and King Tuff show at Marathon Music Works last night - stoked for the road trip down! We plan on checking out Third Man Records and probably tour URP. Anyone have any other suggestions for things to check out or good places to eat while we're in town?
