In April of 2012, I was simply trying to find somebody who knew something about Hangout Fest and stumbled on this place and found a community that embraces a lot of different cultures and backgrounds and music tastes. Thanks, Inforoo.
And I'm glad that I got to start the horrible yet wonderful Hangout thread for the 2014 edition; I'll never get that lucky again.
I was dragged to my first Bonnaroo in 2009 with 2 days' notice and hence very little preparation by my then 19-year old daughter. (that is a story in and of itself, but for another time). As we hurriedly set up our tent in the dark that Friday night to the strains of David Byrne beginning his set in the distance, a festival beast within me that had slumbered for 40-something years awoke and demanded to be let out for good. I knew immediately upon passing through the gates into Centeroo, as some random guy placed a beat up straw hat on my head, that I was home.
Fast forward to 2010. That we were returning was a foregone conclusion. I decided to do some research to better prepare for the coming year...and hence stumbled upon Inforoo. I lurked for a few weeks before ever posting, and when I finally did somehow managed to piss somebody off (not my usual M.O.). Undaunted, I came back. I kept posting. I kept reading. And, in the process, I realized what a wonderful collection of characters that I had stumbled into. That year (2010) was brutally hot. I cooked up a ton of goodies for the Brunch and then wandered around stupidly not being able to find it. I finally gave up, gave the food to some random wooks I met in return for letting me pose for a photo with their gnome (fair trade, huh?) and went into Centeroo. The only Inforooster I ended up meeting that year was Dale, and that on the last night during Dave Matthews.
By 2011 I felt that I had gotten to know several Inforoosters fairly well, and drove to Nashville for a sewing and tutu-making extravaganza at DreamingTree's house that we affectionately dubbed the "Sew-In". It still took a little courage to drive 4 hours to meet up with people I did not know. My daughters made comments like "why don't you get off the internet and make some REAL friends"....little did they know, as we will see later in this narrative. I had a great time...finally made it to the Brunch that year...and it was during 2011 that I finally became integrated fully into the family.
There have been other shows, other camping trips...and friendships that I will have forever. I didn't realize how much until my life was turned upside down in August 2012, when my husband died unexpectedly. From a little squeak of a frightened and desperate Facebook post the word must have spread like wildfire. Inforoo swooped in, embraced my girls and I with so much love and support it was amazing. For the next few months there was an endless stream of texts, cards, flowers, visits, being kidnapped for festivals and concerts, and even a whole crew of Inforoosters who came to my house one weekend that October and helped me do a lot of tasks. It was during that phase that one of my daughters finally said "Wow, they really ARE good friends, aren't they?"
Inforoosters can show up at my home any time and they know that they will get some sort of sleeping space and that I will feed them, let them use my shower or whatever is needed. I have no qualms about leaving a house key out for an Inforooster. I likewise know that I or my kids would be taken care of in almost every corner of the country by someone that I know from this board.
There is a special magic and a special vibe on this board unlike anything that I've ever experienced in life. Yes, there are some of you who squabble or sometimes, yes, even act like immature idiots. I love you anyway. There is not a family on this earth that does not have some measure of conflict within. If you look at the sheer numbers of people on this board, the incidence of drama is much less than it is in your average dysfunctional family...LOL (statistically speaking, of course). I can meet an Inforooster for the first time after reading their posts and talking to them on the board and with that first hug, it is like we have always known each other.
Thank you, Inforoo, for enriching my life. Thank you for sharing my triumphs, my joys, and my sorrow. Most of all, thank you for being the wonderfully wacky motley crew that you are. That WE are. You're going to have to work hard to get me to leave....haha
Love you guys to infinity
OMG I totally forget about the sewing weekend!! I had glitter in my house forever after that. That seems so long ago!
Well said Zen. I love you girl, and look forward to making more great memories with you and everyone else here

I'm not much of an active poster and I usually only hide in a few threads, but some of you do in fact know me very well and it has been an absolute pleasure sharing experiences and getting to know you all.
Brunch is an event I look forward to every year. I can't erase that smile from my face after spending those couple hours with everyone on Friday morning.
The tinychat was a fun spot to go and just talk nonsense with friendly people that were genuine and made me feel good (and made me feel like I had friends.) I got to know a lot of great people in there, and when I see them on the farm and I am elated and filled with joy. It makes me happy when I get to share IRL experiences with Inforoosters.
Then there are those that I am not necessarily friends with, but who hang around in the same threads I follow. You may not know it, but I enjoy the conversation and discussion and I look forward to seeing that little white blip on my "Bookmarks" tab to see what everyone is talking about next. I may make less than 5 or 10 posts per week, but I am here everyday reading and smiling and stealing great info from you all (so I sound smart and in-the-know with my IRL friends).
In summation, I wish I was more active and I wish I knew and talked to more of you. Because my post count and frequency to the board are not a good representation to how I feel and what Inforoo means to me. I wear the shirts with pride, and although I am unknown to most on the board... I still am glad to call myself an Inforooster.
I found this corner of the world looking for info on my first roo in 2010. I am more of a lurker than poster but still am made to feel welcome. I am always telling stories of the amazing things this board members do for their fellow roosters. It amazes me regularly and I am proud to be a member. Happy double digits!!!!!!
how did I write my whole diatribe and never even mention QSAROO? I did sort of indirectly, but not really. mea culpa.
This is such a true statement!
QSAROO started me on the road to doing better things and opened my eyes to so much around me. The stuff being done for Whoreshack (or whatever he chooses to rename himself lol) has been nothing short of amazing and a miracle.
Due to the wonderful efforts of Fawn, Scrog, and so many others, I realized that giving back and paying things forward is not only an amazing blessing but also so rewarding. I am now part of the National Bone Marrow Registry and it is thanks to QSAROO. I got to work with Habitat For Humanity and the Literacy Council and these efforts too were inspired by QSAROO.
Without Inforoo, there would probably be no QSAROO in my life. Without that, I would have never seen what the power of helping others could truly be all about.

I first discovered Inforoo in February 2008, shortly after buying my ticket for my first Bonnaroo. I had a bunch of newbie questions, and quickly discovered how terrible the (now defunct) official forums were. So I took to the ol' Google, thinking there *had* to be something better out there; what I found was so far beyond anything I could have anticipated.
I was in a really bad spot when I joined the boards. Within a day or two on either side of registering, I was betrayed by a so-called "friend" in one of the lowest, scummiest ways possible. I won't go into too much detail, except to say that what he did was very violent, and very expensive. Plus I had recently been dumped, and was just feeling like crap overall. After a terrible 2007 and a not-so-great second half of 2006, 2008 wasn't looking much better - how very wrong I was. Finding Inforoo really marked the turnaround point from a shitty time in my life. Bonnaroo gave me something to look forward to, and Inforoo was a place where I could share my enthusiasm, since all my friends got tired of hearing about it pretty quickly.
After I got answers to my newbie questions, I stuck around - partly because you all seemed to know a lot more about music than the average bear, but there was something else drawing me back. This place seemed... different. Not only were people far more knowledgeable about music and much more civil to each other than on any other forum I'd visited, but it really opened my eyes when I saw what strong friendships people formed with other members. I'd never realised there was such a die-hard live music subculture, outside of patchouli-scented wooks selling grilled cheese and hemp necklaces in the parking lot before Phish shows. I wanted in.
On the suggestion of another poster, I had gone with some friends to a 2-night Umphrey's run in VT over Columbus Day weekend, and had the time of my life. So when people started talking about how awesome My Morning Jacket's New Year's set was going to be, I knew I couldn't sleep on it. I had seen about 1:20 of their late night set that year, and had been itching for a full show ever since. So, my first true Inforoo meetup was at a bar in Queens on New Year's Eve 2008. I did go to brunch 2008, but left after 30-40 minutes because I didn't know anyone and felt awkward about stealing a bunch of strangers' food. Within moments of arriving and introducing myself to Dirty Jerzee, Sassbox & avocadolady saw me wandering aimlessly by the bar and invited me to join their table. They then proceeded to spend the next few hours talking to me as if we were old friends. I immediately felt right at home.
I also hit it off with a crew who had come up from Kentucky (I think they were from the MMJ forum? We never exchanged contact details, sadly). After making our way over to the Garden in a drunken stupor, they invited me to join them in their section, since one of their friends had bailed. I accepted, saw one of my favourite shows of all time, and rang in my happiest NYE with virtual strangers. And it was only fitting, then, that my last Inforoo meetup before moving back to Australia was in a pub before a My Morning Jacket New Year's show. Circuital, indeed.
Since then, I have met up with over 100 Inforoosters in 10 different states, seen some truly incredible shows, and formed some beautiful friendships. When I think about it, a lot of you who I feel so close to, I have only met a handful of times - but one thing you learn from growing up on two different continents is that it's the quality of time spent together, not the quantity. I've seen the good this community in general (and QSAROO in particular) is capable of, and was even a recipient of that love myself three years ago. And they're not the only ones - I've had so many other Inforoosters I barely even knew at the time overwhelm me with their warmth and generosity. I'm proud to call those of you I know best my friends.
I hesitate to say the forum has gone downhill, because many of my favourite posters have only joined in the past few years, and there were plenty of unsavoury characters back in the day. In fact, I think it's improved significantly since Adam stepped down. However, the overall mood on the board was undeniably quite different. It really upsets me to see people saying things like "go kill yourself" so callously, because that type of talk simply didn't happen back then. Just my $.02, and that doesn't mean I'm not still proud to call myself a member of the community.
Happy 10th birthday, Inforoo, and here's to many more. Pretty soon you'll be old enough to get tipsy at brunch with the rest of us.
Last year was my first time at Bonnaroo, a 13 hour drive from where I live. The list of crises that were averted due to Inforoo is endless. My friends and I were able to have the best time of our lives with little to no issues throughout the week. Bonnaroo impacted us in a hugely positive way. Big thanks to everyone at Inforoo for sharing their tips and tricks and allowing us to have such an amazing time! Excited to return to Bonnaroo in about 140 days!

When I first created an account on Inforoo, I was just looking for the rumored artists additions for Bonnaroo '13, my first festival. Didn't log back on until after my first trip to the farm, but I'm glad I did. I had a rough first month on inforoo (Mainly because of Juggs and Flanzo openly mocked my love for odd future) but I give them, and the rest of you credit for expanding my musical horizons beyond anything I could imagine. Seriously, I never would've discovered Deafheaven or James Blake if it wasn't for you guys. I've learned a shit ton from inforoo, both music and non music related, and I'm grateful for that. Can't wait to meet you guys at brunch this year!
I joined Inforoo back in August of 2006 after Radiohead, Beck, Oysterhead and Tom Petty melted my face off earlier that summer. I've gone every year since, and I've always spent the 'offseason' trolling these boards for the latest lineup rumors. Some of my favorite memories would be the total meltdown following the booking of Metallica, and the second meltdown after Eminem was booked. I also loved when djjd used to post the really really intricate and cryptic clues that took way too much effort to solve. Those were always fun. Glad that both Bonnaroo and Inforoo are still around and as good as ever!
Inforoo. What can I say that hasn't already been said, and much more elegantly than I could ever hope to do?
Leo's survival guide deposited me at doorstep of my favorite place on the internet. (Thanks Leo! I love you, man.)
That first year, 2006, I was too bashful to stop by Camp Inforoo.
By the second year I was pre-Roo camping with Inforoosters and organizing Brunch over fight about gay stereotypes (Silent Disco, don't 'cha know). Absolutely the best thing ever to come from a flame war.
I have met some of the finest people I know here, and seen some of the worst come and go.
Here's to many, many more years. I'll be hanging around until all y'all are too old to push my wheelchair through the arch. Then I guess we will switch to hover-rounds.
Is it June yet?
LOVE LOVE LOVE, Bunny
(the above seems so inadequate. i love you all so much. thank you for everything good thing ~ past, present and future. xoxo)

I was just swinging through to check things out after a long hiatus. Congratulations. Inforoo has always been the only place I will come for news and rumors, but the best part is the people. It has always been my favorite place to talk about music online.
Many thanks to the mods and posters who have made this place so special over the years.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
^ kim, I love that the first Inforoo member we both met, is the great and amazing ambassador Dale. Lol. We need to get him on TV.
lol me too! He threatened to kill me and I had immediate thoughts of escape and how I was going to unpark my car... I was in no way harmed that weekend and Luckily camp turned out to be one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I spent far to long lurking and procrastinating meeting up with far to many of you. Last year I spent multiple months crossing the country by myself, inforooers not only came to visit me but opened their homes to me along the way. There's nothing more comforting in uncertain times than a friendly smiling face, to me that's inforoo. thank you, I love you all... happy 10th year infofam.
Inforoo - wow. I'm still such a newbie on here. I joined Inforoo last year right around the time of ticket sales. To echo a few others, I was seeking solid input on how to prepare and what to expect. Not unlike the others I never could have imagined the friendships that could be foraged from this community. I convinced my Roo mates for last year to join up with Camp Inforoo VIP and we had such a fantastic time with that group. We joined in the brunch for a bit and just had such a wonderful time.
From that experience and through these boards, I have been able to connect with some beautiful spirits. People who have helped me to continue expanding my thoughts and perspectives. People who have put their trust in me as a confidant. People who have shared laughter with me and people who have given me pep talks and insight on topics that we found we had in common but they had experience.
Last year I knew I had a diagnosis on the way. I wanted to go to Roo "just once" to have the experience. I never could have imagined the way it would infect my system. Roo gave me a boost and reboot to my focus and purpose in life. I know it made a world of difference as I entered my treatment journey. At one point I was afraid treatment would stop me from coming back to Roo this year. However, as the months passed I KNEW that no matter what, I HAD to get back to The Farm. I had to get back to that positive ground and that community. Life is so much better with so much beauty and music and creativity and diversity in it.
Happy Birthday Inforoo! I look forward to the coming years. And I look forward to meeting more of you beautiful people!

If the unnecessary sarcastic posts are indicative of the people who have been shouting out for the VIP camping group - I'm so in. lol. These are my kind of people.
This will be my 10th year at Bonnaroo and yet I have never posted on inforoo. I guess 10 years of being a lurker is long enough and just wanted to say the Highlight of my year for the last decade has been spending time with all of you festivarians. Thank You all for the amazing vibes over the years. Can't wait for 10 more.
2014 will be my first Bonnaroo, and Inforoo has been a lifesaver. The wait for Bonnaroo has been killer but Inforoo definitely helps. Im on this site daily! Congrats on 10 years Inforoo!!!
