I went to this festival a few years ago and LOVED it It's nothing like Bonnaroo or any others, but I totally enjoyed everything about it. I wish I could go to this, but it is one that I would want my husband to go with me, and he has no interest
This is the conflict I've had the last few years. This and Hangout. Hangout's environment destroys this festival but I lean more towards the heavier side of rock and this fest usually books a ton of acts I would see. Coming from Chicago, this would be significantly cheaper than Hangout so we're thinking of mixing it up next year. Pretty solid lineup as usual though.

I don't know how I missed this thread. I'm taking my 13 year old daughter to her first music festival this year and we had planned on Hangout until she saw the lineup for Rock On The Range. Can anyone tell me what the crowd and environment are like? The festival in general? One thing I'm excited about is that since the festival is in a stadium we will be able to use flushing toilets the entire weekend.
I agree with sang that there are about 16 or so bands worth seeing and Wolfmother was just added to the lineup today. I'm looking forward to finally seeing Lemmy before he kills himself partying and marking Slayer and Gojira off my bucket list.

The crowd is a lot of older people (30s-60s) - at least it was in 2012. I had no issues with anyone there, and overall the crowd is pretty cool, not what I expected for sure. I think she will be fine as long as she is with you. It certainly isn't the kind vibe that we have at Bonnaroo, but it isn't bad either. I would totally go back again if I didn't have so many other shows in May. The venue is great, there are plenty of grassy areas around the stadium, and even the GA area is very cool - just don't get up front because there is LOTS of moshing and crowd surfing. Everyone we sat near in the seats were totally cool, and we chatted with lots of people. There are plenty of good options for food and drink - they have a full bar and seating area in a huge tent on the outside of the arena, I spent a bit of time there Overall for anyone that likes these bands, I would highly recommend it.

Thank you! I have a friend who has been the last two years but it's the only festival he's been to so he has nothing else to compare it to. Plus, he's a typical guy. Any time I've asked about the vibe, crowd, etc. the only answer I get is "I dunno, I guess it's alright."

I live in Columbus, Ohio. I have been to ROTR 5 of the 7 years so far and I have enjoyed and learned from the experiences how to do ROTR.
here is a list of some things to prepare for
1. Heat. it gets hot in Columbus in May usually is in the mid 80's to 90's (so bring sunscreen but not the spray on type)
2. there are not alot of great places for shade, you can go under the stadium, or in a tent (they are like suanas though)
3. Alcohol is $ 8 a bottle doesnt matter what and anything with liquor is more. Gatorade and water I believer are $ 4 apiece
4. Bring cash, ATM lines are long and they usually run out, there are vendors walking around selling drinks throughout the stadium and field but only take cash no card
5. The field pass is the way to go if you like to be close and have better access to the Main Stage
6. GA tickets have access to get up front for either of the side stages but not the main stage as you must have wristband to get on the field
7. there are places to get like festival or stadium style food but nothing special.
8. The people, there will be a wide variety of people and it changes from year to year as the music varies. I have never had an issue but I am Male and 6'3 so maybe that helps. I would say that 90 percent of the people are friendly and there to have a good time, 5 percent are passed out drunk by 5 pm and the other 5 percent are Summer Breezes
9. As long as you enjoy the bands that are playing you will have a good time, take care of yourself in the heat as the stadium reflects the heat onto you, if you dont like being packed like a sardine stay 100 ft or further back of the stages, if you dont have alot of money and want to drink, id advised doing it before you go in because there is NO RE ENTRY, Hyrdrate well, bring multiple layers in case it rains and most importantly have a good time
