Damon Alburn is playing now and it sounds excellent.
Ah, you meant 11am eh? Phantogram is playing right now. Temples at 4pm Central.
Hehe. Whoops. Yes, it was 11am. I better check the other places I posted this. They will probably have it up in the archives soon, so there should be another chance to listen.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Here's the initial artist announcement for next year. Love seeing Thee Oh Sees and Jessie Ware on it. And what's that? Scott Weiland?

Next leg of the line-up was released today with 500 more bands added. Who all is planning on going this year? It can be the cheapest festival to go to with the most bands if you have access to a place to stay in Austin. Staying somewhere or getting there are the only major costs if you don't get a wristband or badge which aren't necessary.
I hope to get there on Tuesday this year to have a few days before it gets way packed. I am wondering what changes will be introduced after last year. I know they want to clamp down on unofficial parties, but that would take a lot of fun out of the festival. Let's hope not.
What bands should we be looking into now? Hype hotel has had my favorite line-ups the past few years and are a good indicator, but we are still a month out before any major schedules are released. haven't dissected the line-up yet.
Cant find a .gif to link but RTJ at The top of the list along Big Data, Misterwives, Joey Badass, Odesza, Twin Shadow.....am I able to upload inages on this board?

Sxsw has a radio channel if you want to check out new bands. I will be listening to this a lot before the festival. I don't have a ton of extra time to choose songs from 2000+ bands.
Everyone who goes to music festivals should go to sxsw at some point. You will never find a better bargain for going to a music festival that has over 2000 bands. It is a good idea to have friends in Austin to stay with.
Next year is my first year to attend this. I have to say I was a little taken back by the price.
You don't have to buy that, but it certainly helps. Some showcases do require it, others make special preference for it, but there's more which are just general admission.

Wait a minute. I don't need to buy this outrageously expensive Music badge?

I guess you could consider the badge like a super VIP situation. It will grant you priority access to most things. But you can still see plenty of shows for free if you put a little effort in.
This past year was my first time and I had a blast. I only went 2 days, but got to see Thee Oh Sees twice, Hot Chip, and a few others.

the badge guarantees you access to conferences and Official Showcases. There are numerous day parties and night shows that are free via RSVP. I've never paid for anything at sxsw tbh. But it's also a risk in that you could wait in long lines or not get in to some events at all.

I'll write more about this but you should consider volunteering if you can commit the time. The trick is to volunteer during the movie/interactive portion which leaves you usually a 3 or 4 out of the 5 music nights to yourself. I love volunteering and I get a plat badge for theater managing.
Some of the be shows though are pop ups or if you get to Fader Fort or Hype Hotel at super early when they let anyone in you can post up there all day w free drinks til the big shots come out.
Samsung shows are for anyone who gets up at 7am and find out where they are giving out tickets. Hot Chip was a manic space trip last year.
