They played a tiny "festival" (it's more of a block party, honestly) here 2 years ago. During their whole set, a giant rain storm was rolling in. It was awesome. As soon as they stopped playing, it started raining.
Love them. Did you catch their show at Upstate Concert Hall Kait? The Pearlpalooza show was great but the more recent show was amazing. They've been better each time I've seen them.

Ugh, no. I wanted to just go after I got out of work, but when I checked facebook EQX had posted that it sold out already.

We drove from Hamilton, Ontario to Albany for that show! It was sweet. First time in Albany. Very nice people and cheap beer!

Uhh what ^ that set was awesome. One of my favorite Roo moments was standing on a trash can above everyone looking at all of the people in the crowd strain their voices singing along to Mouthful of Diamonds.
I know you're never telling anyone Because the patterns they control your mind Those patterns take away my time Hello, goodbye
Nobody I was with enjoyed their Roo set except for me. She did a really poor job interacting with the audience which hurt them, and they were on a little late with a short set to begin with.
I'd welcome them back, but I'm not sure how much bigger of a spot they could get. Last few slows on Thursday are great, and to me they are an act that is much better after sunset.

White Denim probably drained the energy out of the entire crowd. That was simply unfair scheduling. I know I was dead tired by that point because I was on my feet in that tent since before EMA started.
I still thoroughly enjoyed it, though. And definitely welcome them back.

Late to the party as usual. But I downloaded their new album and Little Dragons new album at the same time last week to check them both out. And this is getting MUCH more play on my IPOD than Little Dragon. Don't get me wrong....the Little Dragon is good....but this new one of Phantogram's is really pushing all the right buttons for me. LOVE it.

IMO this new LD album is their worst yet. Ritual Union for me is better than Phantogram's best.
Oh I've recently fallen in love with phantogram. It's like this thread was bumped just for me!
Same here. And if Sarah lived closer, and I had the free time, I'm pretty sure I'd stalk her.
And I don't know about that Kpowers. Ritual Union is, I think, stronger than their new one. At least for me right now. But I think I might argue whether its better than Phantograms best. Of course I'm just really diving into them now, and I'm still very much in the starry-eyed honeymoon phase with Phantogram at the moment. But I just can't quit listening to the new one. Really, my first exposure to them was on Big Boi's last cd. And I loved her voice, but never got around to really checking them out until I started hearing Fall in Love a lot recently.
Sidenote and offtopic: Big Boi's cd was was also partially responsible for introducing me to LD as well. Proving once again why he is the man. And still changing and pushing new sounds in hip hop. More so than most if not all out there IMO. Cooler than a polar bear's toenails.
Caught this episode of Guitar Sessions last night:
Their live show looks pretty good here.
I only know one person who has seen them live and he said they were amazing. I really wish I could see them sometime. I've really fallen in love with them
I am still obsessed with their discography. When I'm Small, Running From the Cops, Make a Fist, Turning Into Stone, Bill Murray... it's such beautifully layered music.
i saw them live at Gov Ball a few years ago and had never heard them before.. thought they were pretty good. THat new song "howl at the moon" however is one of the worst songs i've ever heard in my life. was pretty dissapointed

lolzzzzz, I really like that song. I'm not sure what you think is so terrible about it. I think it has a really cool unique sound and the random jumps in tempo and sound manipulations in it I think are pretty interesting to listen to. The song is pretty dynamic and it may be my second or third favorite on that whole album.

Odd. I really dig Howling At The Moon. But i'm gonna be honest there are very few songs on the new one I think aren't strong. I could name my favorites but it would be at least half the album. I'll try to think on a top 5 though, just for shits and giggles....since I absolutely CANNOT seem to turn it off of my Ipod right now.
I have seen them 4 or 5 times. The band has gotten better. Adding live musicians and getting a better lighting setup will do that for most bands.
The issue with the new album is it has some really good songs, but also terrible ones. With them being on Big Boi's record, working with the Flaming Lips, and lots of commercials/movie trailers, this was the album they needed to be great to get to the next level and it just isn't.
One thing I noticed is they really moved away from the Josh songs and now Sarah is the sole lead singer. She always sang the singles off the record but some of my favorite "deep cuts lol" are Josh songs.
As for Howl at the moon did nothing for me until I saw it live. It's clear the band thinks that is one of their better songs. Definitely better live.
I'm curious Billybaroo what you think are the terrible songs? Because I've since gone back through their discography(like I said I'm new to them), and I really feel like Voices, for me at least, is possibly the strongest overall. Though Running from the Cops is just ridiculously sick.
Edit: And seriously, if you dig them, watch the full Guitar Center Sessions episode. It's On Demand on DirectTV right now if you have that. I was in love with them before, but now it's full on fanboy status, foreal. I CANNOT wait to catch them in July. So happy.

Btw, me bumping and renewing the the discussion in this thread is pretty much a total hijack. At the very least it probably doesn't belong in this forum anymore. Since they aren't playing in 2014 and all. But I give not one single fuck!

iF you dig these guys...and you get a chance to see them...DO. Great show tonight. They sounded awesome, gave Josh's songs their due, and for a small club setting had one of the better lighting rigs I've seen on that scale ever. A visual treat as well as aural IMO. Of course I'm now thoroughly in love with Sarah. But seriously....great show.
