Has anyone done this on the ground. Instead of buying an ez up
If you intend to put something like that on the ground, I would strongly recommend spending a few more dollars and just buying an E-Z Up. Neat idea for a truck cap, but less than ideal for other uses. I love DIY projects, and I've made some things out of PVC before, but doing so has problems. For one, unless you already have a ton of pipe and connectors on hand, you'll end up spending more than you might think. You've also got to make it collapsible or portable somehow (linchpins instead of glue?), since it will be a little on the short side if you just build it to fit a truck bed then slide it off. Strength is also an issue - PVC can certainly work, but the bigger you build something the beafier your tubing will have to be, and the more bracing you'll need, adding cost. If placed on the ground, you'd need to figure out how to secure the tarp(s), and hold the whole thing down in the wind.
If you have any ideas or thoughts on making something like this feasible, by all means, let's hear them. I'm not trying to shoot this down, just saying that it might make sense to use something that exists rather than reinventing.
If you're bound and determined to use PVC, because you have a bunch or are in love with it, a hoop house would probably be easier and cheaper to build, and arguably stronger. I've never seen one at Roo, but there was a discussion or two about them on Inforoo, and Google has tons of links for them. A tent or E-Z Up just seems like a lot less hassle, except for in special cases like building on the bed of a truck. The bigger you build something with PVC, the more that span length and torsional rigidity become concerns, especially when wind comes into play.
Edit: But don't take my word for it. Just be sure to put a couple pics up here if you do it.

I camped next to a couple guys a few years ago who basically did something like that picture, but also extended it out so that it served as both the truck tent and an ez-up. It was cool, but ultimately a pretty big pain in the ass. It was a lot of parts and it was much harder to put together at bonnaroo than it was when they were at home because you don't have nearly as much room around you to get the best angles and leverage. I had to help them put it together and even then it took a few hours. It didn't seem worth it to me, but YMMV.

I got this Coleman Hooligan 2 for Roo last year. It was great. So much ventilation. I slept late as fuck every day. Definitely recommend if it's just going to be you in the tent.
I am somewhat of a tent collector and this I know from years of festivals (and MANY bad tent decisions) :
Save money if you can with discounts, but DON'T skimp on the tent you buy. It is the most important piece of gear you'll buy for best festival enjoyment. You can count on the cheap WallyWorld tents to leak like a sieve in the rain and being wet while you sleep sucks. Go for names like Kelty, Big Agnes and Mountain Hardware and you'll be guaranteed a leak-proof tent--I had my Kelty at a fest where there was a hurricane passing near, and even with 3 inches of rain and a river running under my tent, the interior stayed dry!
Go to Sierra Trading Post online and check out their tents--they have deep discounts on good brand tents, usually overstocks or discontinued models. Get on their mailing list and they will randomly send you promo codes for 40% off the already discounted price.
This site will have different gear collections at pretty good discounts for quality brands. Keep checking back every few days and they should have a collection with tents included. You can also get sleeping pads and bags.
Im looking for a new shade set up this year(EZ up broke last camp out) wouldn't mind another Ez up or two but wanting maybe a little more or something different and the bigger the better the Quickshade with the walls was cool but a little pricey and not available unless you do like 1 wall or half walls? so anyone gots any ideas
