I think there are about 5 of us leaving the Wednesday afternoon/evening and driving through the night to arrive hopefully mid afternoong Thursday and get moving. Not too sure about transport yet, but I imagine a pals Jeep Cherokee.
I know another group heading out of the local area as well in an RV, but Im not too sure who else is coming from around this area.

I went from Clearwater last year im originally from there - its a nice drive - esp if u do it over night going through Atlanta in the middle of the night was the sh*t!
How did you go? I imagine we are open for ideas as its a first for the 5 in my group, although the others have been. Im assuming 12-14 hour trip? I remember heading up to mid VA about 6 years ago was between 10 and 12.

I dont know the route we went only cuz my brother drove and he has GPS which was awesome for the ride up. I can find out for you tho =) I sent you a PM back
My friends and I are going for the first time. We are leaving early Wednesday AM with plans to visit the JD Distillery. I've driven the route a number of times going between Gainesville and Chicago. I figure the time from FL to Tullahoma (Just West of Manchester) at about 7 - 8 hours. Going through Atlanta with two or more in the car is not that bad because you can use the car pool lane the entire way.
My suggested route would be I-75 North through Atlanta. In Macon GA the 475 Bypass will save you some time. I don't think the 275 bypass in Atlanta will save you anything unless there is some huge accident on I-75. In Chattanooga take I-24 towards Nashville. Just past exit 134 is a rest stop where you could probably hang to adjust your arrival time at roo. I'm told the exit you want is 112 West bound.
Huge help, thanks! Possibility of catching the greyhound now... dont know whom wants to drive if anyone. But if we drive, I will print this out and that is the route we will take.
Getting excited. Anyone got any cool Tampa stuff going on before hand to take note of? Just trying to finish out the semester and work until this bad boy is upon us. It just puts a huge smile on my face ;D
Yes, so easy to get excited. I'm killing time with a convention and a week of film shooting in May to make it to June. I just wanted to point out that you should add two hours to my time estimate since you are coming from Tampa.
I had not thought of going by bus. How many are in your group? What is the bus schedule like? I know they used to stop in Alachua on I-75 but I don't know where the Greyhound stops now except Gainesville.
Bus schedule is pretty cool. I found it leaves Clearwater at I believe 4pm Thurs (Tampa around 5ish I think) and plows on through the night arriving in Manchester at 9am providing traffic is good. Throw in about an hour for walking I imagine and you pull up tent only walking up around 10-11am Thursday. We have 5 total going right now, but I dont know what one girls schedule is like whom is flying in from Paris. If she comes late or something, I imagine at least one person would wait behind for her.

I think about how neat it would be if like 40 bonnarooers took the same bus and listened to some tunes on the way up and talked about the weekend to come. . . I'm in.
Yea, after a few things Ive heard about the bus, the plane with a shuttle pass Thursday and Monday seems like a much better deal at $137 and $50 roundtrip for the shuttle to and from the airplort. The ability to shower Monday when I get home and rest a day before work is worth it alone.

I'm coming from Tampa with a friend. I've driven to Nashville many times in the past few years since my sister got married and moved there, and to her place (south of Nashville) it's 11 hours with no stops. Since we're going to her place for the night and then on to Manchester sometime Thursday I may just take the low Alabama road up to 65, or even 19 to GA 300 to 75, skipping the monotonous north florida/south georgia stretch of interstate that I so hate. For pure speed though 75 all the way.
So, with the VW about to be back in action, I imagine we may all drive now. I had bad clutch that eventually went completely. While it is getting fixed though, Im going to get a general check up and just have them make sure it can make it through the long haul.
We have 6 riding now, but I know i cant fit them all in my car. I think we can do 4 pretty comfortably and not have anyone moaning and complaining too much.
The only qualm I have with it is that the tires it takes are pretty shitty and fall apart constantly. The owner before myself put on some sport wheel kinda digs and they take low profile tires with a certain rating that seem to be magnets for nails and the such. Trying to trek half way up the country and into some fields with that seems rough.
So, maybe one of my folks could cruise around in it for a while and I could take an old reliable Toyota.
I really dont know yet... all still up in the air. I dont think we will be flying unfortunately... it seems like its getting later and later where fares will start going up and no one really has gotten on that bandwagon with me.
Decisions Decisions - getting to Bonnaroo should not be so stressful! Sounds like you are pretty stressed for cash so I won't suggest you look at renting a larger vehicle with OK gas mileage, but your idea of trading vehicles with someone is not bad. Hell this is Florida, there are lots of RV's sitting in people's back yard that only get used a few days a year. Do you or your parents know someone..... with an RV or larger car they might trade?
Another way to think about the distance - 10 one hour commutes across town. When I had a beater that needed to travel I used to divide the trip up into my daily commutes. When I thought about it only being equal to two weeks of going to and from work and did not have a question that the beast would hold up for another two weeks I stopped worrying. (I also talked to the car, but that is another story). One day road trips can be a lot of fun, especially when you are going to a big party with great music. See you at roo.
Actually Cor, I have been on the bandwagon for quite sometime. You know I'm down for anything and I think that as long as we all remain somewhat flexible that we will have no worries my friend.
Whats up! There are 2 of us leaving St. Pete sometime Wednesday afternoon. We plan on driving to at least Atlanta area, staying the night and getting a final good rest then getting in line Thursday mid morning. 75 to 24 definately looks like a straight shot... first time also.
We're leaving St. Pete Wednesday - debating whether to leave at 3 am and travel straight (it looks to be 9-10 hours) or to leave at like 5 pm and get a room north of atlanta, then continue on in the morning . ..

I would recommend the straight through and then sleep at a hotel....Get a good nights rest, take a long hot shower(last one for days) and then get on the road early like 7am and you will be in the grounds by noon, well rested, smelling good for a little while and you are set for the rest of the weekend.

I am trying to leave from Tampa but my ride cannot go due to medical reasons, I either need a ride or a couple people to split gas costs with. Real emergency situation now, pm me if you or anyone you know is interested.
