Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
According to the Related Dates thread, every other year they have announced additional acts a month after the initial line up announcement. They did that for 2010 and 2012, so hopefully 2014? It was 3-4 weeks after the line up announcement so that would be next week or the week after this year maybe? I guess that's not really a question anyone can answer. Except maybe Jesus.
Also, Spiritualized announced they are playing Calgary Sled Island Festival which is from June 18 to June 22nd up in Canada, so they'll be at least on this continent around Roo time.
Interesting. I was going to pick up a Bonnaroo handbill route from Fancorps. The list is pretty eclectic.
Options Stock Level Max* 3/8 Phish - Chicago, IL - Park West 3/8-11 Lorde - NYC - Roseland Ballroom 3/8-9 Gasparilla Music Festival - Tampa, FL 3/10 Widespread Panic - McMinnville, TN 3/11 Widespread Panic - Birmingham, AL 3/11 Broken Bells - Atlanta, GA - Tabernacle 3/12- Bob Weir - Louisville, KY - Louisville Palace 3/13-14 Widespread Panic - Nashville, TN 3/14 Slightly Stoopid - Chicago, IL 3/15 Bob Weir - Nashville, TN - Ryman 3/15 Elton John - Birmingham, AL - BJCC 3/16 Bob Weir - Atlanta, GA - The Tabernacle 3/18 Lorde - Chicago, IL - Aragon Ballroom 3/19 Elton John - Tupelo, MS 3/20 Slighty Stoopid - Covington, KY 3/21 Elton John - New Orleans, LA 3/21-22 Buku Music and Art Project - NOLA 3/28-30 Big Ears Festival - Knoxville, TN
Phish and WSP have played before. That's not surprising. Elton/Broken Bells/ Slightly Stoopid are playing this year. Bob Weir could go either way. Lorde is what's surprising me. There's no rhyme or reason other than she just hasn't been announced yet.

I'm confused lol
In short, he is saying that, on this list of handbilling dates, all the acts are a) festivals b) artists playing this year or c)Roo alumni except for Bob Weir (as a solo act anyway) and Lorde. It's just odd that they would pick two Lorde shows in different cities hundreds of miles away as places to randomly promote Bonnaroo. I am sure there are dozens of choices they could have made for Chicago and NYC. Why pick the same artist with no Roo connection as the show to promote at?

Dave to the rescue. I just woke up from grandpa napping.

Maybe because Lorde is massive popular with the exact demographic that would buy Bonnaroo tickets? If you're going to promote Bonnaroo's lineup, it makes sense to do it at shows in two major cities where a) its easy to get people to handbill and b) you'll reach a bunch of people.

Do you know how many massive popular artists play those venues? He was just pointing out it was kinda weird that two Lorde shows specifically were targeted - not one Lorde show and one The Knife show, or one Lorde show and one Queens of the Stone Age show.

There isn't a lot of room for adds, but I am sure there are a few decent names that will be announced in case ticket sales are down. With her winning a couple Grammys that would be a huge grab for sure.

It'd be different if they had any other hand billing opportunities at any other shows in the Northeast or if they had any other hand billing at shows for acts that hadn't been at Roo. I am not saying she is a 100% lock by any stretch, but she really sticks out on that list of acts.
They are also aiming hard at the jamband shows considering Bonnaroo doesn't cater to that audience as much these days. Makes me wonder if Bob Weir or the Allmans might be added.

I just figured those were targeted because of the higher percentage of festival goers in that crowd and that most of those shows are closer to Roo. I admit it did seem weird though.

I'm sorry, please point me to the Knife single currently charting on Billboard. In recent years Bonnaroo has clearly and evidently taken steps to attract a younger, more mainstream-friendly audience. The 18-24 year olds who would go to a Lorde show are right in that target of younger festival goers. It makes sense that they'd do it in two different, majorly populated cities in two different areas of the country, because it will hit completely different people. By the same token, they targeted three Wide Spread Panic shows, and three Bob Weir shows. Why not one Wide Spread Panic and one moe. and one Umphrey's? Or one Weir and one Allmans and one Derek Trucks? Saying that they aimed for those because jamband fans are likely to show up to Bonnaroo makes little sense in an era where your average festival attendee is more likely to be a college aged kid in neon sunglasses as a dreadlocked hippie.

I thought of that as well. Another thing to mention is the lack of legends/icons on the bill this year. Booking either one of those two would fill two voids at the same time. We are also missing our token classic country legend, which who knows...they might punt that this year. I hope not though.
Thought so. Just trying to make sense of why you always come off as so angry and depressed every time you post here.
I fail to see how I'm angry and depressed, merely by pointing out that it's probably just good business sense that leads to them handbilling at Lorde show.
