It's really weird that they're announcing this as an artist addition. JPJ has been Seasick Steve's bassist since 2011. He was going to be there already.

Does he always play with a bassist/full band? Because I've seen lots of videos where there's not a full band and I know people on here weren't sure if JPJ would be included or not. It seems like it's something that they just confirmed because you'd think that if he was always definitely going to be included they would have been promoting that from the beginning.
Also, it's entirely possible he plays other sets/guest spots so they wanted to get the word out there that he'd be on the farm.
I'm guessing this could also have Bluegrass Situation implications as well.
In a perfect world we could just blow up the Bluegrass Situation Superjam and turn it into a Dave Rawlings Machine set with the lineup they performed with this Spring (Gillian Welch, John Paul Jones, Willie Watson and Paul Kowert will join Dave Rawlings )

I'd love that. Dave Rawlings Machine's set during the Big Surprise Tour was amazing and a true highlight. The video of his Dylan cover at that show still gives me chills. I need to see him live again soon.

Dave Rawlings Machine in 2010 was one of my favorite shows I didn't know much about going in. Ended up third row and it was awesome.
I think its interesting that this JPJ announcement was on Monday. I think that means another big announcement will come either tomorrow or Wednesday. At five weeks away, this is about the time Bonnaroo drops tons of information all at once.
I thought JPJ normally plays with Seasick Steve. Am I wrong about this? I don't think this has any implications on the Superjam. Just bonnaroo making sure everyone knows that JPJ will be with Seasick Steve bc most attendees have no clue who he is.

Eh, I saw some live videos of Seasick Steve with no JPJ, so it really was up in the air. But no, I doubt it has any implications on the superjam.
I do think it's weird when people are like "I haven't heard of these guys." Like when the Silent Disco names came out and Robert Delong and Classixx were both on there. People on reddit.com/r/bonnaroo were saying "I don't know ANY of these people." Well, two of them have been on the line-up for months, so its your fault at that point. But, I'm a hypocrite because there are acts from my first few Bonnaroo years that I didn't explore who I really regret missing now. But lesson learned, do your research!
Im thinking we dont bring a person of JPJ's status to the farm just to play a few bass lines during the day at the What for Seasick Steve. Superjam.
He plays with Seasick Steve fairly regularly so while I would love to see him appear at the Superjam, I do think he could just be coming to play a few bass lines during the day at the What.

Last time JPJ came to the farm he played in at least four sets.
Superjam Ben Harper Gov't Mule Gillian Welch
And he wandered the campsites playing with random groups of people. I think it'd be safe to say he enjoyed his Bonnaroo experience. Still, I'm not betting on anything from the Superjam until it is officially announced or I'm standing in the crowd. There are too many possible combinations to bank on any one thing.
That being said...Jack White Blues Superjam featuring John Paul Jones, Tedeschi Trucks, Seasick Steve and more sounds pretty damn nice.
Can't wait for some Led Zeppelin reunion superjam rumors from the peanut gallery.
For some odd reason, I looked up Robert Plant's schedule last week. He's out of the country so that should kill any legit LZ-SJ rumors. If he wasn't doing anything during Bonnaroo, that's right where my mind would have gone.

Just got an email saying Bonnaroo added 9 songs to their Spotify Playlist, but when I went to it, there were only 5 songs. Those songs correspond with the 5 acts that were added today, so I'm wondering if there are 3 others that were added for a minute, but shouldn't have been released yet. Bonnaroo staff a bunch of teases!

Just came to post the same. Was hoping someone caught them before they were removed.
Superjam = Jeff Tweedy, Nels Cline, John Paul Jones, and members of White Denim
Let me fix that for you.
This would be beautiful. I thought I would be at the Superjam ? no matter what, but now I'll be front row at the Superjam ? no matter what; if this, of course, is the superjam.
Music Midtown: 2011 Bonnaroo: 2012 - 2016 Forecastle: 2013 Rock al Parque: 2014 420 Fest: 2014-2018 Shaky Knees: 2015 - 2019, 2021 Seen tons of local shows since 2004.
I was surprised they weren't on the initial lineup. I'm sure it'll be a solid show but different from the TV show. Sort of like how Workaholics and Comedy Bang Bang were still good comedy sets but not really what people were expecting. The Comedy Bang Bang was actually a bit of a letdown because I had high hopes.
