Saw him for the first time at this year's Austin Psych Fest, was in the top-3 sets I saw that weekend. And a TOBACCO show is so weird, a late night slot at Bonnaroo would be just about the perfect setting for him.

I saw him in Boston in a tiny place this summer. I was in a trance the whole entire show. The visuals were INSANE. If he does get to play bonnaroo, he NEEDS a late night for sure. Day show wouldnt do it justice. People would go nuts and lose their minds.

I really do think the best word to describe a Tobacco show is grotesque. I was entranced by the visuals too, it's hard to look away from them. And they really do fit the music so perfectly. I would love to know where he sourced some of them though, they are some weird shit.
Yes, late night Tobacco definitely needs to happen!

Yeah I stumbled in there early Thursday during my first year at Bonnaroo and danced a circle around the arcade before quickly exiting. I remember seeing a skit on Conan where Triumph was there insulting the gamers for coming to Roo to do exactly what they would be doing at home. I intended to see Tobacco that year, but that was the most conflicted Roo schedule-wise I've attended.
I would love some Mellencamp on the farm, but I think he has sworn off playing his old hits, and only plays stuff from the last 10 years or so. I think that would make him less of a get. Regardless he's playing at the Ryman in January, so I'll be there!

His setlist from this past Saturday has like 11 out of 14 songs that would be on a greatest hits album. Just FYI.

One time in Bloomington I saw the Coug at a gas station putting diesel fuel in his fighter jet.

FWIW, I think the Coug fits perfectly with Bonnaroo. Either in the goofy late-night 80s spot like ZZ Top or Billy Idol, or in the weird "suddenly we're all going to pretend to think this guy is awesome" spot like Lionel Richie.

I stand corrected, now I'm REALLY hoping we get him....beach boys slot or (more likely) Lionel Richie slot.

I just noticed this. The reasoning for why he'd be "less of a get" slayed me.
John Mellencamp wouldn't be "less of a get" because he's playing his recent materials. He'd be "less of a get" because he's John Cougar Mellencamp.
I'm hoping the lineup looks something like Prince/ Foo Fighters/ Fleetwood Mac/ The Black Keys/ Drake/ MMJ/ Chic ft. Nile Rodgers/ Kendrick Lamar/ Calvin Harris/ Beck/ Lana Del Rey/ Pretty Lights/ Interpol/ Modest Mouse/ QoTSA/ The Roots/ Portugal, the man/ TV on the Radio/ Run the Jewels/ Flying Lotus/ Future Islands/ SBTRKT/ Flume/ FKA Twigs/ Jungle
Beyoncé - Foo Fighters - Fleetwood Mac - My Morning Jacket - Beck - Portishead - Bassnectar - Lana Del Ray - Kendrick Lamar - Slayer - Willie Neson - The Prodigy - Karen O - The Roots - Tame Impala - Fleet Foxes - Alt-J - Fatboy Slim - Flying Lotus - Gary Clark Jr. - The Wailers - Duo de Twang - Flume - Beats Antique - Modest Mouse - Deltron 3030 - Violent Femmes - Tobacco
Crossing my fingers
I'm all for this lineup.
If enough people believe... it WILL happen.
There are a few longshots (portishead, slayer, the prodigy) but everything else seems within the realm of possibilities.
And I'd add to this a 60's psych superjam with Wayne Coyne (semi-realistic, especially given the sgt. Pepper album,0) and what I think will NEVER happen... a Superjam curated by ?uestlove AND Les Claypool. It doesn't really even make sense to expect them to work together but Questlove is one of the best drummers and Les Claypool is arguably THE BEST bass player so it'd be crazy to have that much talent up there and the people the two of them could bring are huge. Though, I fear their styles wouldn't mesh.... Only one way to find out!!! I pray that Roo finds out.
