Ps. I still don't know how they headlined Coachella.
Stop by the set and they'll show you.
Trust me don't get me wrong I think they have been consistently great on albums, as well as live. Just in terms of popularity I don't know how they got top 3-4 at Coachella. Maybe they are bigger on the West or something.

Coachella went all in on Bankrupt. I don't blame them though, Wolfgang was huge.

Where do they play? I feel like we have an unusually large number of suitable preheadliners/which closers this year. I really hope they get an LN which like The xx last year.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
I remember liking it well enough when I heard it...just not blown away.
I actually have been working on starting a thread about all the albums from the last year or two that I need to finally catch up on. For a few reasons i've slacked behind and only really heard a bunch of top albums when they were streaming for free when releasing. This was one of them.
I had zero expectations when I saw them last year. In fact, I only went to their show to see the opener, The Vaccines. I was very impressed with Phoenix's set and they are firmly cemented on my do not miss list.
I really need to listen to Bankrupt. Haven't heard it more than once or twice yet.
It's amazing. Kinda got trippier like Vampire Weekend seemed to do. Deeper weirder sounds (which I like). Also the 71 recordings deluxe is really awesome and cool to listen to some of their process.

Eh, I feel like their material is so bright and peppy, that, like Passion Pit, they will do well in the sun. Arctic Monkeys is much darker and, I think, more bombastic. Their guitar tone makes me think of the night.

I was referring more to bankrupt's stage show. I agree that their stuff is pure rage/party music, but it would be unlike Bonnaroo to give an act AM late night which.

I should also really give Bankrupt another chance. I love their older stuff, but I didn't love Bankrupt the first few times I heard it. I have yet to see Phoenix live though so I'm pumped for them
They are one of those bands you don't expect to translate well live, but they do it and then some! They have excellent energy and are always seem happy to be playing live.
Convert me. I don't want to finally begin to love them after I've missed them.
I prefer their older material. It's a lot more chill. Give Alphabetical a listen. I was totally obsessed with Run Run Run a few years back.
Thanks for the recommendation! Gave it a listen, and a handful of songs immediately won me over. I like it best when they incorporate slightly jilted chords/really groove. It hasn't helped me understand the rest of their material, but I'm sure they'll get me in the end.

I saw Phoenix during the day at Music Midtown and it was great. I really think they are quite better than Passion Pit live mainly due to the singer comparison there. I was not a fan at all when I went either. Instantly converted by the end of Entertainment (first song).
