I'm so excited that they booked Danny Brown, one of the best MC's in the game, to perform at Bonnaroo this year.
Danny Brown has two albums, XXX, his critically acclaimed debut album, and Old, his second album, which was also critically acclaimed, and he is touring now.
Danny Brown's albums are a tale of two halves, with one half being slower raps covering serious subject matter, such as the song Lonely, from Old
The other half of his albums are straight bangers, which will have you going insane from beginning to end. His song Side B (Dope Song) could be the best banger I've ever heard
Danny Brown is a talented MC and he can put on a pretty solid live show, but damned if he doesn't draw one of the worst crowds I've ever had the misfortune of being around. Just loads of absolutely blitzed teenagers acting in ignorant fashion. Did anyone see him at Bonnaroo last time? What was the crowd like?

He's talented, but I can't stand the Molly fixation. He probably draws the worst festival crowd.

That's what he calls the songs himself, but it's far from inaccurate to call them Molly Bangers

Right, because the statement is accurate. The songs are Molly bangers
Then we agree!
He's talented, but he panders to an awful crowd.
That's a nice change of pace! I've never seen him live, but I'll take your word for it. Old was fantastic to me, I'd be disappointed if it doesn't translate well live.
Right, I wasn't saying it was a gag. I'm saying that hip-hop's new infatuation with a club drug years after its heyday is getting tired, unoriginal and embarrasing at this point, and the fact that he's a habitual user of that drug doesn't change that. To each their own, I suppose.
Danny Brown is one of the most frustrating rappers on the planet right now. Half of his new album is some of the best hip-hop I've ever heard. The other half -- the dreaded molly bangers. The molly bangers have their place, some of them are really fun tunes to get the crowd bumpin', but man, a whole set of those is such a waste of his talents. Most of the show I saw a few months back was just him standing around getting the crowd hyped while his molly choruses rang out with the most unmusical subsonic bass rumbles my ears have ever been exposed to. Where's the rap dude?! The unquestioned highlight of the show was when he just freestyled acapella for five minutes. His flow is unreal.
However, he's said in interviews that OLD was made for festivals, so I'm expecting a set full of molly banger after molly banger. If he ever played "Float On", "Dope Fiend Rental", "Lonely", "Clean Up" or even older shit like "XXX", "Die Like a Rockstar" or ANYTHING off The Hybrid, I'd lose it! I'm not getting my hopes up. Though I will definitely be at the show. Hence the frustration.
I'm hoping he plays a set full of the "molly bangers". I just got into him because the so called "molly bangers" smack you right in the face immediately and grab your attention. I fuckin love it. then again I have some weird taste in music so it doesn't surprise me that the other danny brown fans (at least from what I see so far) have the exact opposite opinion on his music and want his other shit.

I'm with you, I'm a huge Danny brown fan, and I definitely think the bangers are better

He's been going through some shit pretty publicly recently. I dunno if it's affected his performances but I hope he gets his head straight before Roo, for his own sake and ours.

I can't find a single link on the internet in which Danny Brown refers to his songs as "molly bangers." Are you sure it wasn't a dweeby friend who came up with that term Son of a Beek?

I saw it in a video, I'll look for it and post the link

To follow up, the video I thought I saw it in didn't refer to them as that. It was probably one of my friends that coined the term and it just caught on within my group of friends.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate all the molly bangers, I just wish Danny would realize he has fans of his moodier shit too.
He knows that. He also knows the bangers translate to a much more fun, energetic live show.
No doubt. I just hope he plays his other shit at some point in his career. He's too skilled as an MC to just let that shit die. I'm probably in the minority, but at rap shows I'll go ten times crazier when someone is flowing crazily over a sparse beat than when someone is just dropping hooks over a bangin' beat.
