So I was really really excited to see the Bob Moses add today! That was a great way to start the morning. That album was almost all I listened to late last fall. I feel like the additions are never someone that I really like, so that was great.
I was feeling so good about it that I decided to put on Bryson Tiller to check him out. Why not?
Someone in another thread described him as "a D-grade Weeknd." I'm a bit past halfway through this album, and I have to disagree. I think it's much closer to "a C+ -grade Weeknd."
It's definitely listenable, but the emotional impact of The Weeknd's lyrics are definitely not here. The Weeknd can make you feel bad for him while he sings "I just fucked two girls 'fore I saw you" because you know he would trade all of the fame and fortune for that one girl (the one to whom the song is directed). Bryson Tiller instead makes emotional plays where the object of his affection is still addressed as a "bitch" (albeit the best one), in lyrics like "You're so different/ Nothing like them other bitches"
Just my two cents. To each their own, and all that. I just thought I'd share. Happy Bonnaroo!
