I doubted the headliners at first even though I like Elton and Jack and Lionel. I doubted Elton at #1, I doubted Lionel at #4. But the more I've thought about it and the more I've listened to and realized how many great songs they have I am on totally on board. I was doing some research on Elton and came across this www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/5557800/hot-100-55th-anniversary-by-the-numbers-top-100-artists-most-no After seeing this, numbers wise these are the biggest headliners Bonnaroo has ever had. Not the best, but definitely the biggest. Elton #3 all time, Lionel #30 and Kanye #92.
I think your logic is flawed. By that logic, Paul Anka is bigger than Bruce Springsteen, Radiohead, and Metallica.
According to the charts, album sales and singles he is. Of course that's not the only measure of success and it's definitely not the measure of how good the music is.

You're hilarious, Sang. This did not need a thread.
I love how you unveil it like some grand conspiracy. (in hushed voice of utter shock) "My god. These...these are the biggest headliners Bonnaroo has ever had."

At first I was thinking these headliners are weak but the more I get back into their music the more I think that they'll all be very solid performances. These wouldn't be my top choices but I think they're going to be a lot better than most think. You add the underrated headliners with a very solid and deep lineup and this has a chance to be one of the best ever.

who doesn't think elton or kanye is going to put on a good show?!
(and i'm not talking about the people who are all "fuck kanye" just to be like "fuck kanye". i'm talking about the people who actually think for themselves...)

Skip the show then, that's what I'm doing for kanye. You don't have to see a show you don't like dude.

I think that there are a lot of people who think one or the other or both will not be very good. I've been listening to people on here bad talk these guys for the past two months. It's either Elton isn't relevant anymore or it's fuck Kanye and his music sucks. If there are people that feel that way I doubt they're exited to see their shows.
Of the top 4, I'm least excited to see Kanye. I do like Kanye's music and I own most of his music. I think I bought the College Dropout CD twice and once on ITunes. I'm not one for theatrics and what not. I'd rather just see/listen to good music. This is the reason why I don't see shows like this outside of Roo. If I wanted to see something like this I'd go to a musical or broadway show. I'm not doubting that Kanyes show will be good, I'm Just not that excited for it. Actually, there's not many hip hop shows that I'd consider headliner material. Give me somebody like KRS-ONE or A Tribe Called Quest, then I'll be excited. I'm more excited to see Ice Cube over Kanye, although I'd rather have seen Cube 20 years ago.
Ill check out Kanyes show, I'm just not very excited for it. I do think a lot of you will enjoy it which is why I think the headliners will be good shows. I'm just much more excited for the other three over Kanye.

I was your age (19) when I saw Elton John back in 98. I wasn't a huge fan but I knew enough about music to know I should check his show out. It blew me away, he was and I can imagine still is an unbelievable performer. You may be moved to tears of joy or emotion but I doubt you I'll be bored to tears. I hope you get to hear take me to e pilot. It friggin rocks. If you go in with an open mind and stay through the rocking finish you won't be disappointed.

I'm definitely going to go with an open mind, everyone says he puts on a good show. Hopefully I do change my mind, since he's Sunday I can't imagine myself leaving early

I already know ill end up in tears by the end of his set. I have history with tiny dancer & your song so I'm gonna be a crying mess during those... I'm so excited.

This isn't directed at anyone specifically, but I saw him in November and it was a lot of fun. I'm not a huge Elton fan by any means, but I discovered him when I was very young, so it was great to finally see him. He obviously put on a good show. A LOT of songs to sing along to and a lot to dance to and that's all I want from him!

Yup. There's a reason he's #3 on that list up there & has been around since the 70's.

I don't understand what you're saying here. You clearly state that you like Kanye's music which I think qualifies it as "good." Then you go on to state that you'd "rather just see/listen to good music." So if you accept his music at good, why wouldn't you want to see the show? He's a superlative performer, your statements are baffling.

The point is Kanye doesn't just come out and play his music(rap). There's a bunch of shit going on that's not music. I watched some of his show the other day and there was a lot of pointless shit going on, IMO. Like I said, if I wanna see something like that I'd go to a broadway show. If I wanna hear Kanye I can put on his album, I don't need the spectacle part of it. If you don't have a guitar(or some sort of an instrument) I don't care to see you jump around the stage.

I was at his show last night. He had the same amount of "shit going on that's not music" as other headliners like Tool, McCartney, and Arcade Fire.
Besides the typical rant (which I want to get into more detail when I have time later....it really was heartfelt and seemed genuine so I want to see if it's similar to what he said at other shows) he played all his songs and in a way that made them flow really well.
To be honest, I actually expected there to be more superfluous stuff for the Yeezus show but overall I'd say it was pretty damn awesome. All the little things add to the show (like having a monster with red eyes climbing the mountain for a minute while the next song is being built up, or splitting the mountain in half for a grand entrance with others).

I'm going to check it out, I'm just not as excited to see it as others. Like a few said of Elton John, I hope he proves me wrong.
The big issue with Elton John is he has too many hits to play them all. If you are going to hear him do anything from the Lion King, forget it. I've seen him a couple times and will see him again in March (Las Vegas). Just fair warning, don't expect to hear every hit.
