The big issue with Elton John is he has too many hits to play them all. If you are going to hear him do anything from the Lion King, forget it. I've seen him a couple times and will see him again in March (Las Vegas). Just fair warning, don't expect to hear every hit.
I know he has too many hits to play them all but I'm going to assume his Bonnaroo set will be unique, different from his regular shows. So I wouldn't doubt him doing something fun from the Lion King.

I would love to believe this, but I doubt it'll happen. This partly genuine doubt and partly not getting my hopes up. Why do you think his show will be different than the rest of the tour? McCartney's show was the same show he was putting on everywhere from what I understand. But that doesn't make it any less amazing.

I just think that a large music fest has a much different atmosphere than a theater in Vegas. I'm sure his set will be similar with songs but I think he knows he's not playing to only the regular 50+ year olds that he normally does. I'm sure he realizes that there are a lot of younger people that will be there, not his normal audience. I feel the same with Macca, I doubt his set was identical to his regular sets. I don't know what he normally does but I believe Macca played like 38 songs at Roo. I'd also assume that the energy level at Roo is higher than one of his stadium or theater shows. I've been to plenty of different venues and nothing compares to 80,000 people, all watching in awe. I'd put money that he'll play "can you feel the love tonight", I don't see why he wouldn't.

I hope you're right. Can you feel the love tonight is one of my more anticipated songs to hear, but I know he doesn't play it often. I agree that there is a higher energy at fests, but idk if that really affects the set lists when they're in the middle of a nationwide tour like this. The real unknown factor here is that this is his first American festival. That I think will affect if he decides to makes changes or not more so than the age of the crowd or the energy level that goes with a fest.
When are we gonna be the Madonna, Mariah Carey, and Janet Jackson top three. I mean they are 2, 5, and 7 respectively? we already got 3 and 6 and and 1 and 4 aren't available.

I'll post on this thread in April what his Vegas set was if it helps prep you for his Roo lineup

Dear god no, that would be worse than this year, but I'd take Madonna over Kanye any day of the week.

Just got back from Vegas last week and saw Elton at the MGM. His setlist was:
The Bitch is back Bennie and the Jets Rocket man Levon Tiny Dancer Your Song Mona Lisa and the Mad Hatter (with a story about 9/11) Better off dead Indian Sunset Empty Garden (with a story about John Lennon) Goodbye Yellow Brick road I guess thats why they call it the blues Don't let the sun go down on me Philadelphia Freedom I'm still standing Crocodile Rock Saturday nights alright for Fighting
Encore: Circle of Life
A good mix of old and really old stuff, but very enjoyable
