Roo this year will be really special. I'm going with 11 people on a 40' luxury RV/bus and the girl in our group is really passionate about photography. We all would love to have really high quality pictures of the 13 hour ride in, and just hanging out at camp, and shots of crowds. She has a canon t4i, which is a nice camera, and a few different lenses for it. Is this okay? I just don't want to resort to shitty iPhone photos or use my go pro for pictures when this girl has a beautiful camera that she'd love to get good shots of the trip/hanging out at camp with.
I know some places dont allow detachable lenses at the actual concert venue, but what about just for hanging out at camp? (which is where ill spend a lot of my time, anyways)
It will be allowed. The only place they are technically not allowed is inside centeroo, but I easily snuck mine in via my backpack several times last year.
In answer to your question. No. Don't do it. I have the same camera. I would NEVER bring it Bonnaroo.
1. Hotter than hell. 2. Dustier than the sahara desert. 3. Get stolen. 4. Did I mention the heat? 5. Sudden down pours. 6. Don't allow detachable lenses. 7. Pain in the butt to lug around.

They don't allow it but I know lots of people who get them into Centeroo anyway. Either way, they will not take your camera, just tell you that you can't take it in. Then you go to another person in a different line, and try again

Nice happy snappy will do just fine.
We live in Florida. It's 85 at night here with 100% humidity during the summer. In fact, nobody told me tennessee gets cold at night. I expected last year, middle of June, to be sweating at night just like FL. Nope, it got down to where I could see my breath. Was not ready, didnt pack anything warm.
anyways, I think she just wants shots of the way up and a few while playing beer pong at camp and just hangin' out. So I should just tell her no, and just to bring disposables instead?
Gonna bring a gopro this year, anyone have attachments they found out to be a must have?
Ill be taking my gopro. Get a go pole, or make one. I have a tripod mount and i bought a pole from publix thats like extendable up to 12'. I duct taped the ever-loving shit out of the mount to it and mounted my go pro on it. Been using it for awhile with great success.
I personally could not take care of that type of camera during roo. I would be a nervous wreck the whole time. And when someone spilled their beer all over it (and they would, just because it's mine) I would die.
But I know people that bring nice cameras. She just needs to know what she is in for.
I never got questioned or stopped bringing my Nikon D5100 with my kit lens into centeroo last year (i only took it in a couple of days) It can definitely be a pain to carry around, but I was happy to get some better quality pictures with it. I kept mine in my backpack without a case and it was fine. If your friend feels comfortable carrying it around then I say go for it, but if she's feeling paranoid about it getting ruined or damaged, maybe it's best to leave it at home.

I'd like to get a nice collapsible pole to fit in my backpack when I'm not using it. Do you know what the sound is like through it? Being outside makes it different for me, the bass inside somewhere is usually a problem. Looked up small mics Idk how much of a difference it would make. I wouldn't be buying a super expensive one either way.

Last year I took my T3i into Centeroo the entire time in my backpack and ended up taking a grand total of about 4 photos with it. I agree with the advice here, don't worry about it -- stick with a point 'n' shoot to maximize your enjoyment and fun without the worry/effort that comes from lugging around an SLR.

You're doing it wrong.
not really. I saw a lot last year and I realized that my body needs rest. It's hot out, and honestly I like walking around centeroo but until there's a show I want to see, I will bide my time at camp. No reason to spend my entire day and night in centeroo. If my shows for the day start at 5, I will be at camp until 4 just hanging out. Conserve energy and whatnot

do you have the open back for the go pro? that seems to always help me with sound. You sacrifice the whole "Water and condition proof" aspect, but it improves sound quality a lot.
As long as you only carry it into center with a smaller lens attached you are ok. They frown on big telephotos. A 70mm or smaller ( something no more than. 2-3" long) is fine.

I think it depends on the searcher. If they know the difference between a detachable lens and a point and shoot (some of the high end point and shoots it is hard to tell the difference), they will not let you bring it in. This was my experience in 2012, maybe something has changed.
I've brought my camera to Roo the past two years, and while it doesn't have a detachable lens, it's a pretty high-end point-and-shoot, and very bulky. The first year I went solo, and found it to be a major PITA because it takes up a lot of room in my Camelbak. When you're carrying your own water and snacks and sunscreen and wet wipes, having a big-ass camera with you is cumbersome and an extra weight on the back. It also made my bag bulky, so I was self-conscious about the amount of space I was taking up in crowds. This also meant that I had to return to camp before nightfall, because nighttime pictures are shit and I like to be more mobile in the nighttime. Looking back, I'm not sure it was worth it.
Last year I went with a friend, so being able to split up the load between two people made it sooo much easier. So that might be something to consider.
Fun story: my first year on the second day, I at one point stooped down to get my schedule/map out of my Camelbak. It was at the bottom of the bag, so I had to take my camera out first. I set the camera on the ground, check the schedule, put it back in my bag, and walk away. 5-10 minutes later, I realize that my bag is lighter than it was before - I FORGOT MY CAMERA! So I'm freaking out since I didn't yet have a grip of the layout of Centeroo, plus I had a bit of corn so my memory wasn't the best, and I've got to try and find where I placed my camera and hope that someone didn't pick it up. Well, luckily for me, someone did pick it up - and they were sitting with it under a tree near where I had opened my bag. I was soooo relieved! I told them that it was mine, and they had me confirm a few pictures on the camera before giving it back to make sure that it was mine. It's just one of a few experiences I've had that have convinced me that there's magic on that there farm...
Anywho, if you bring a camera, take care of it. If you like to move around and dance a lot, you might be better off leaving it at camp. I'm not sure I'm gonna bring mine this year at all. We'll see.

Yea I do, I'll have to try that out. Been needing to experience taking it apart.

This is a well-reasoned list. I will interject my two cents: I think you can protect a nice camera from the rain and dust by investing in a dry bag, but the one big drawback is, as mentioned above in #7, lugging it around. If you want to sit it down, you have to worry about someone not seeing it on the ground and kicking it or stepping on it. Even if it's in a bag, that's still a distraction. Likewise, if you want to get underneath a tent you are going to have people bumping into it or your bag, creating an additional distraction/irritation. I do bring a nice camera every year, but I pick my spots: No camera at night because I simply don't want to worry about it when I'm dancing around and having fun.
