Anyone else ridiculously excited about J. Roddy Walston & the Business? I love the blend of good ole boy southern rock with irresistibly catchy sing-a-long hooks, fantastic storytelling and one of the most high energy performances that I've ever seen. If you don't know much about them then here's some videos.
I just recently started listening to them after a friend recommended them to me. I'm really liking what I'm hearing and definitely plan to be at their show. Sometimes it's fun to just rock out and this seems like the perfect show for that!

I'm pretty excited about them being at roo again, there was a conflict last time and I missed them. I certainly appreciate being given another opportunity to see them.

I also missed them at Roo 2011, but I got to see them twice in Columbus in 2013 and all I can say is that both show were amazing. It's like a wild party. The whole very-packed crowd was singing along to every song and the band was having a very good time. I'm actually surprised at how low they are on the list. They're probably just a lot bigger in Ohio than elsewhere.
J. Roddy rightfully gets the cred as a piano-pounding, vocal cord-shredding, ULTRA DYNAMIC front man, but the Biz is where it's at. I'll set up shop in front of Billy all day and watch him rip licks. Carl Broemel reincarnate.

I've missed them 3 times - once @ Roo and 2 due to bizarre travel schedules - but finally caught them @ Shaky Knees last year and it was amazing.
Only Tedeschi Trucks, Jack and DBT stand in the way of this set being conflict-proof.
Every track on the last album is solid - listening to it now.

Saw them at Cafe Where in 2011 (everyone else was at Buffalo Springfield complaining about the sound) THESE GUYS BRING IT 100%! They ended with a cover of Highway to Hell that melted my face off! There albulm Essential tremors was one of my top albums of the year! I hope for a tent show, maybe a noon start and a good way to START THE DAY OFF WITH ROCK & ROLL!

I'm really surprised that there hasn't been much talk about this band. Here in Ohio they're starting to get pretty big, but they did say that a Columbus station was the first station to play their stuff on the radio. They're just on the verge of a big jump in fame, I feel. I tell all my friends to listen to them, and I haven't heard anyone being disappointed.
Really excited, just hate that the conflict with white denim.
I know those feels. I'm glad I've seen white denim before so it's not as tough of a decision. That said. This show will be awesome. And hopefully not packed due to the conflicts.
I checked these guys out once the line-up was released. Honestly, I had never heard of them prior. But, they are an irresistible force -- I MUST see them. Glad they got a late night spot, but not so late than old man like me would be asleep.
Discovered them on the lineup for Firefly festival in 2012. Immediately fell n love with album. They had a noon opening set at Firefly and rocked it despite a lackluster crowd. Loved the new album Essential Tremors as soon as I heard it. Finally got to see them again in Oct 2013 in a tiny room in Cleveland with about 50 people and was amazed up close by their musicianship. He plays a real piano that travels with him....no "keyboards" and the guitar playing is outstanding. Then a month later saw them with about 1500 in a packed Newport Music Hall in Columbus.(a radio station sponsored cheap tickets). The crowd was insane with energy, chanting "Roddy, Roddy, Roddy" between songs. He got so wound up the show was off the hook. I have no doubt he will bring this energy at Roo. Can not wait to see them again. I know nothing about Banks but I will be there for the whole set just to get a good spot for some good ole' rock and roll!
My only must see on Thursday! Kinda has a Tom Waits feel with more Rock n Roll. Can't wait!
They sound more like Kings of Leon than Tom Waits. Probably because they don't sound a thing like Waits.
I said "feel" kinda like Waits. I was referring to him gettin down with it on the piano with that raspy voice of his. I'm not saying they sound just like Waits. I did say with more Rock n Roll! And I agree they rock harder than Waits does and I can see (or hear) what you are saying about the KOL comparison.
I'm so glad they got a Thursday late night slot. The Vaccines late night last year was so awesome. A late night rock out session is an awesome close to the beginning of the week. J. Roddy Walston and the Business are more then capable of fitting that bill this year!

Just threw these guys into my Bonnaroo shuffle of unknowns, and "Heavy Bells" completely won me over,
I was really hoping they'd be good, at least something to help me justify skipping Pusha T in order to get a good spot for Ty Segall. Exceeding expectations. I've never stayed at one tent for more than 2 acts on a Thursday before. I'm kinda feeling like I might be on the rail for Ty Segall at this point.

The J Roddy into Ty Segall rockstravaganza on Thurs will very likely be a Top 5 scenario for me. I often find a lack of straight up rock sets at night and this is poised to be a memorable back to back.
I'm hoping J Roddy plays a chunk from their self titled release. That's their best album by far.
