Alright, so this year a bunch of my friends and I are going to be piling into a car and road tripping to Bonnaroo. One of my friends has a 10 person tent, and I was wondering if this type of tent will be able to fit in GA camping?
That will be too big for the area you get for 1 car, but you would probably have room with 2 cars. Of course, there is always tent only where you have as much room as you are able to stake out, but it is first come first serve and fills up quickly.

It's fine, I brought a 10 person tent and a small shade structure for behind the tent, we only had one car with 3 of us. You just have to get it up and fast. People are usually cool as long as you're not a dick about it. We had a huge tarp that we shared with everyone so nobody cared. It depends on the shape too, ours is a rectangle so it fit behind our car. This year were doing the same thing but well have 4 cars so it'll be fairly easy. More cars the better because you can claim more land.

my only advice is to make sure your elevated once inside if your sharing with that many people(cot, chair, air mattress). it sounds silly till someone pees in it... yeah that happened

That size tent is generally larger than the area they're going to give you to camp in. Basically, imagine a rectangle the length and width of a standard car. Add a foot to each dimension and that's about what you get per car. That means you'll want to make sure you and your friends end up parking next to each other. There are various tutorials about this but basically you want to stick together in line on the way in. When you are through the tollbooths, pull over so your friends can re-group at that point. Then venture in together. It is especially helpful if you do something to let the staff know you're trying to stay together: everyone have the same sign in the front window, or tie a balloon to your door handle, or something. And then be sure to let staff know verbally that you want to stay together. They will try, but they cannot 100% guarantee that you will be together. If they can't, don't get mad. You will still be close to your friends even if you are not directly next to them. Then what you do is you get out and talk to your neighbors. Explain that your large group would like to be together and would they mind setting up camp to the left or right of their car so that your crew can stay together. Generally people will be okay with this if you're nice about it.

My friends and I have used a really big tent three times, but we had two cars once and three cars two times, and the space we were allotted in Pod 10 then in Pod 2 (twice) was virtually unlimited - more than enough for a big tent, two canopies, and once a medium sized tent, with room to spare. We were lucky. My space in Pod 1 last year was MUCH smaller, and the spots in the big, main field are never that big. You are guaranteed a spot a little wider than your car and 15 feet long - that's it. So if you just have one car, a huge tent won't work, unless you have 4 people in a car and can get them to give you extra space, which they are probably supposed to do, but the parking volunteers don't seem to know that. And you definitely want to save a little space for a canopy or some makeshift shade setup - you don't want to be in the tent after 8 AM or so.

Definitely talk. If you are in line with another car and they try to split you up, ask nicely if you can stay with your group, and they'll let you. And once you are parked, talk to your neighbors and yeah, they'll probably switch spots if you are close to your group but not together. You would probably even have room to switch your cars around once your row fills up. You would think at a somewhat "green" event like Bonnaroo car pooling would be handsomely rewarded with something as readily available as extra camping space, but unfortunately you either have to beg and get lucky or bring moar carz.
Wow, I haven't been to the farm since 2009. Are they finally getting strict on the camping space? In 2005, we were packed in like sardines, but other years it was pretty spacious.

I didn't scope out the whole farm, but last year everywhere I went they had the camping areas all drawn out in a grid with white lines. I definitely did not have that in Pod 2 the previous 2 years, or in Pod 10 before that. Kinda sucked, but made it easier for me to convince my neighbors to move back since they were a good 5 feet over the line.
One of my only complaints about Roo last year was the tiny amount of space they gave for setting up camp. My group came in 4 or 5 cars and we had enough space for our tents, but barely any room to set up chairs, canopies, etc. Luckily some people behind us somehow had extra space so we were able to use that. I've been going since 2006 and I don't remember being that scrunched together, maybe it was just because of the large group we came with.
I went with 4 people & 2 cars last year and we had just enough space. We put the tent behind one car sideways and the canopy in front the tent entrance and behind the other car (does that make sense?) if we hadn't had 2 cars I have no idea how I would've had room for the tent and canopy. And my tent really wasn't even excessively huge or anything... Only have one car this year so we'll see what happens with my tent and canopy because I cant go without either. Def going to have to make nice with the people around me.
I'll be volunteering this year tho. Anyone know how much space you get as a volunteer or is it the same?
I have been a vendor the last two years. The volunteers and vendors camp in Pod 1. There was much more space than in GA camping. I was skeptical about being in Pod 1 at first but now I can't wait to be back. Plenty of room, free showers and close to Festi-cabs. Also shuttle buses that run constantly to the backstage entrance if you are volunteer or vendor.
