I'm big on both, and I've seen yoga classes/meditation workshops offered at Roo before but never really thought to go, with so much else to do and all. Anyone ever try one of these out?
I'd actually love I hear someone's opinion on this as well. I feel like I always have it in my head that it's too early for me to get up and go to one of the yoga classes in the morning, but I always wake up pretty early anyways. I probably wouldn't go through my yoga routine at my tent but getting stretched out would definitely do my body good before a long day in centeroo.
Last year at Roo, A$AP Rosko took at trip into centeroo very early. We stumbled across a group of clean, toned, strange people in various poses on expensive mats in pricey yoga gear. We found ourselves a piece of dirt and joined in the yoga. It was hilarious and fun. One other guy, our kind, came in and joined in and stayed until he split his American flag shorts. We didn't stay the whole time, Rosko dipped when the pelvic thrusting towards the Gods started and once I realized that he had taken off I left too. You should try it though, it was nice to stretch out and get some giggles going.

Oh man, this was a hilarious memory. People were taking it VERY seriously. What "instrument" was that one group of people playing again? Like a triangle or some shit?
Not to stifle anybody's enthusiasm who wants to try it, though, it was a lot of fun. Just...prepare to laugh a few times.
Definitely an experience ripe for laughter. We have gone at least once each Roo, mainly because we wake up so early because it's too hot to sleep. Generally we just lay there and relax while listening to the sounds.
They're not on Inforoo, nor are they part of my Roo crew, but I know a couple of guys that do it. They are not yogis, or anything close to it, but they enjoy it. As Abra said, most that do it are pretty serious about it. They feel very out of place and out of shape compared to most that are there. But they still do it. It makes them feel better about themselves that they're doing SOMETHING positive for the their body despite how badly they are treating themselves all weekend.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I teach an introductory yoga class at home and would love it do it on the farm. I just dont think I'll be lugging a yoga mat anywhere (or bringing one at all).
Might as well do it in the dirt. It isn't like I'll be clean anyways.

I did feel really nice after being up all night to stretch and just be still for a minute. However there were several things that made it funny. Practically everyone there was clean and well rested, all had mats, and were very serious. The instructor told everyone to lay down on their mats then looked at A$AP Rosko and I and said, "Or the ground" and then we had tried to sneak in the back. Once it started the instructor told everyone to face some direction and everyone stood up and turned toward us making us the very front of the group now. Every time a pose was called we were cranking our necks around to see what we were suppose to be doing. The whole time, to our right, a group was making "music" with these long hollow plastic sticks and the beat was very easy to follow yet some of them couldn't quite do it. It was a four count and the people who were off beat were cracking us up.

No kidding, I also live in Chapel Hill and I've been looking for a nearby introductory yoga class to sign up for. Do you work for a certain company or do you just do it yourself?

It was fucking hysterical, it was like a rhythm tutorial for rhythmically challenged individuals.
A little light yoga and meditation would be good after a rough night of partying. I usually get up super early because of the sun and heat anyway so it's probably better to do that than sit around camp and wait for something to happen.
I think one of the pods does yoga as well, btw. If you're camped pretty far out that might be better than hiking into Centeroo and back to prepare for the day.
Please keep in mind that some people consider their yoga practice to be very personal, spiritual and/or sacred. I'm not one of them, but I think going there just for laughs is a bit rude. Kinda like going to a synagogue to laugh at the man in their small hats, or going to a gym to laugh at the guys grunting while they're trying to lift weights. Don't get me wrong, I'd be giggling at off-rhythm people too, and the time a very loud fart sneaked out during a silent yoga class was probably one of the hardest times I've ever laughed, but what might not be a big deal to you or I might be disrespectful to someone else. Granted, if you're doing yoga at a festival you probably shouldn't expect it to be as calm and serene as your usual practice, but still. If you're gonna go, go for the yoga! It will make your body happy.

Franklin Street Yoga! Your first class is 5 bucks! I have a really heavy load in school this spring so I'm not teaching currently but the other instructors are all fabulous.

Just to be clear, we went exploring around centeroo to see what there was to do and decided to join in on the yoga. At this point, no smile had cracked either of our faces as our bodies hurt and we felt emotionally drained. We decided to do yoga and then find some food good for us to help us feel better/get our minds right. Which it did, just in a way we didn't expect. I would personally never go to something just to make fun of it. If someone thinks that us laughing at our inability to do yoga poses, on dirt, in the front of the class when it was so obvious that we tried to be the ones all the way in the back is disrespectful, it might do them some good to loosen up and join the off rhythm people at the stick clapping tent.
I went in 2011 twice. It was actually really nice in the morning. The Yogi was very cool - and had a massive beard that put anyone at Brunch to shame (by a lot). Very comfortable and the live music to accompany was spot on.
And the ohm that vibrated through the crowd was intense. Very very cool.
I've meant to go back in both 2012 and 2013 but never made it.
I did it last year and thought it was really pretty relaxing. I did yoga til I didn't feel like it anymore... so that didn't take long. Then I closed my eyes and relaxed through to the meditation and then did that. It was a nice morning.
