I have recently found some really cool packs that I was wondering if anyone had used for their fest packs before. Pros/cons would be helpful from anyone who HAS used them.
Thing is, they look PERFECT for a fest as far as all of the functionality of them - but they may look "out of place" I guess is the best way to put it.
They have SO MANY positives. They are expandable. The molle webbing on the outside makes it possible for you to clip pretty much anything on there. Flashlights, pens, glow sticks, more packs, smaller pouches, water bottles, mister fans...seriously, ANYTHING.
There is a bladder pouch in most of them, with a hole to run the tube through, covered by Velcro. Actually much better than the camelback one. They are compatible with pretty much any bladder, but are basically set up to hold the camelback bladder best.
There are tons of compartments that can hold all kids of gear like your first aid essentials that will help you get through the day well (moleskin, goody's, sunblock, carmex, bandaids, zipfizz, etccccccc), a tapestry, a pillow, fold up chair, food, seriously - you name it, this pack will hold it
These packs are build to endure a massive amount of abuse. These packs will probably NEVER break down to where you have to buy a new one. They are built to withstand abuse, and lots of it.
The drawbacks are that a good one is a bit expensive (about 100$ or more - they can go up as high as 600$ in some cases but 100$ ones are totally great) and you have to buy the bladder. Plus, I mean, youd be carrying what basically looks like a military pack into center.

I think it's too big. I may be remembering carrying that POS around loaded up back in the day but I'm looking for something lighter. If you have a ton of crap and don't mind a lot of surface area touching your body it'll definitely last. For me Roo is about comfort and minimizing.
What would you bring into centeroo that you would need a bag so large?, honest question. I've never used a bag in centeroo, I just carry a small water bottle that I fill at the stations. I guess a blanket maybe?

Well, I like to be super prepared. It helps my day. Be a lot more comfortable overall. Plus, I fill it with lots of fun stuff.
I'd pack: Medical supplies: Sunblock (small), blister bandages, band aids, antibiotic ointment, gold bond, goodys/aspirin/pain relief, rolaids, zip fizz, etc. first aid. Food: Snacks, trail mix, cliff bars, sandwiches, candy (starburst to give away), jerky, etc. enough where I won't get hungry. Clothes: I carry a change of underwear, because chafing sucks and it helps. I also carry a spare tShirt and a flannel shirt for when the sun goes down. Sundown sets are my favorite and I don't want to be chilly whiting on a headliner.
Other things I carry: a tapestry really comes in handy a LOT. Hankies, my wallet, cell phone, camera, keys, CORN, flashlights, a fold up chair, a multi tool, glow sticks, and bottles of water filled with gin and vodka. Plus anything else I want to have fun with like a frisbee, hacky sack, etcccc. There's probably more but I can't think of it right now.
You may think this sounds like a lot, and well it kind of is, but it never seemed cumbersome. I was prepared for anything. And I could grab a nap at any time, wake up have a snack and some water, maybe a zip fizz and a cocktail and be ready for the next show. Rarely had to spend the time leaving center to eat and rest.
My biggest problem was that the pack sucked. I was looking for a good festival pack because mine from last year is pretty much a book bag. These tactical bags are meant to carry 40-100 lbs. I was carrying maybe 20 at most (more like 15 with a full bladder).
I went ahead and bought one. Should be here tomorrow
There are a zillion different shapes styles and colors. If you search for tactical hydration pack you'll find so many options your head will spin.
The one I just bought was some knockoff on eBay for 31$ it was OD (olive drab) Green.
Some of the better ones, if you want to spend the $ for something that will last forever and will have tons of uses, Maxpedition, 5.11, Blackhawk, Tactical Tailor and Rapid Dominance all have good sites and high quality packs.
Then there is GoRuck, but those are super pricy (start at 300 not including the bladder)

They look like something the guys that stormed Osama bin Laden's compound would wear. I need one in a nice Vera Bradley print. Is that too much to ask?

They have them, just no molle. But I doubt you'd use the webbing anyways

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

It's 42$ and its a really good one actually. The "L" shaped pocket in the back is designed for a camelback bladder complete with a hole to feed the tube through and a hook for the bladder to hang, super easy in/out to fill. It's a really good bag
I used my ACU camelbak last year and that was it. Its got a pocket with the bladder to store small things and a good size bladder for water. I thought it was perfect and one of the best things I took to Bonnaroo.
So my 31$ pack came in the mail today and its a lot better than I expected. Very well made, and it has a pouch designed for either a hydration bladder or concealed carry weapon. It's set up PERFECTLY For the kind of gear ill carry.
I just have to buy a new bladder and it'll be good to go. Cheaper than a camelback, just as good of quality IMO and expandable like crazy.
I could use this just as a camelback with a few items, because it collapses down to a very small pack if I want (there are compression straps that will make it tiny) or I could pack this thing out with 75 lbs of gear if I wanted (I don't, I won't carry more than 20-25 lbs)
I'm going to give this pack a go at Wanee, as a tester but it totally looks like it will be perfect.
(Same model you ordered Druid, different color though)

What on earth is a zip fizz??
Also, I was going to ask the same thing about a "roostertail" until I realized it was that damn word filter...

Zip Fizz is the best stuff ever for festival energy. 30X the electrolytes of Gatorade and massive amounts of the right vitamins. You take one of these small tubes (about as big around as chap stick, about 1&1/2 times as long) and put it in a bottle of water. Drink and enjoy clean, non jittery energy mixed with excellent hydration. Comes in handy right after you've had your face melted and mind blown and still have more shows to see. I bring about 10 per person to Roo - 2-3 a day is about right. 1 when the sun goes down and 1 sometime during LN

Where do you usually get these? I see they go for about $1.40 each but I don't necessarily want to buy a box of 12.
