Hey everyone! I haven't really noticed a specific thread for what lighting is best to use for camping the 4 days on the farm, so I thought I'd start a thread.
2014 is going to be my second time going to Bonnaroo (the first time was in 2007) and I'm trying to make sure our campsite is super swank and done the right way. Tainted Opossum and I have been discussing using solar powered tikis/lights to illuminate our campsite and create some ambiance (or as i like to jokingly spell it "ombeyonce"). So I was wondering a few things:
1.) Has anyone invested in solar powered lights in previous years? If so, how well did they illuminate your campsite in the wee hours of the morning? 2.) What were the best type of lights you invested in? (Tikis, stake lights that light walkways, lanterns, string lights, etc.) 3.) Is there any kind of lighting that is absolutely forbidden?
Any advice, suggestions, and recommendations are STRONGLY encouraged. I'm looking to start investing in the lighting for our camp site this weekend.
For inside our tent, I have purchased a couple of these lights. they have magnets to attach (but our magnets have fallen off) and a loop to hang. They are plenty bright and run on 4 AA batteries. Cost was about $6.
For outside, I got some solar christmas lights from Target. Two strands, and I wrapped them around the frame of our pop up tent. They were not bright, but they got the job done when we just needed a little light to see what was going on. We each had a headlamp, too, for when we needed a spotlight or for looking for stuff that had dropped in the grass.

Inside the canopies, the led Christmas lights do the trick really well at night. Chill soft lighting. They're cheap on eBay and amazon. There is also these little led lights that push a ton of lumens and they come on little integrated tripods and the light is directionally adjustable. Really great light, tons of brightness and very functional.
Of course mini LED flashlights are always great, a d cheap (3$ ish)

Thanks for all the awesome input everyone! I am also wondering if having our site too well lit at night while not being home may be a temptation for the night walker class wooks, but we will just take steps to protect what's valuable
I always bring a trusty "Beacon of Hope". It's a flashlight, a glow stick, a glow stick that flashes, a flashlight w/ a glow stick, and a whistle. They are cheap, waterproof, and last 200 hours (I've used the same one for the last two Bonnaroos and plan on bringing it back this year). Another good thing about them is when it is dark in Centeroo you can make it flash, hold it up in the air, and it can serve as a beacon for your friends to find you before or after a show.
I always get shafted with a campsite pretty close to one of those main campground light trees on the generators (so loud!!)... so lighting has never been an issue for me. Plus, the only time I am at camp after dark is when I'm stumbling back to sleep- so I never really needed more than a simple flashlight or battery powered lantern inside my tent. Headlamps work great for moving around in Centeroo after dark, and finding your way through mazes of tents on the way back to your campsite. I did use one of those solar powered garden lamps as a beacon for finding my tent last year... we mounted it to the top of our river-cane flagpole, a good 15-20 feet in the air. By 4AM, it didn't shine very bright, but I was able to pick it out among the backdrop of flags, stars, and the treeline.

I use a 500 lumen LED lantern in the "main" EZ up and a 300 lumen in the secondary. For outside lights, solar Christmas lights work but they're not bright.
