You may want a small, cheapo tent for changing, wet-wipe baths, etc... but the EZ-up tarp setup is great.
I guess I have no problem with changing in front of others lol. No tent needed! But I will be camping with my car, so I can use it if I need any privacy.
I've had large spiders crawl on my tent at Bonnaroo They are such freaky creatures they are immune to all the chemicals they spray.... I can deal with snakes, although I haven't seen one there yet.
Oops I forgot to put in the so people knew I was kidding about snakes! Hah my brother is the same way with spiders and every year he will wake up smacking himself thinking one is on him.
I actually saw a decently sized snake last year crawling through the rental tents area in VIP.

Last year we brought a piece of carpet just big enough to cover the ground under the ez up after we laid a tarp down. I ended falling asleep outside of my tent on it one night and it was the best sleep I got all weekend. I was thinking this year I would invest in a cot and skip sleeping in the tent all together.
I'm no expert, but I think for sleeping purposes it's more comfortable to sleep outside of the tent, but I still found the tent useful for throwing some of my stuff in it and keeping out some bugs. I had mad ant problems at my campsite last year.
That is SWEET! You get good ventilation in there? And the walls aren't too close to your feet/head?
Yea, it is an XXL cot...supposedly can hold 600 pounds. I'm in the 230-240 range and wanted something that would hold me for a while, I always feel like a regular cot is going to collapse on me at any minute. So, there is plenty of room and a ton of air flow with the rain fly off. The rain fly is pretty worthless anyway, it isn't long enough and water can pool under the tent on the cot. That isn't an issue under a canopy though.
I have been considering just using my cot or hammock under my EZ-up, but the idea that spiders may get near me (or ON ME ) while I sleep is probably going to make me sleep in a tent. I've seen some of the spiders at Bonnaroo and some have been pretty huge.....
I wouldn't be too worried - Brown Recluses and Black Widows are the only poisonous spiders native to the area and neither likes to be in an open field filled with people and cars. There are also pesticides on the farm potentially killing a lot of the diet of those spiders. The spiders that come to Bonnaroo are just there for the vibes, man.
disclaimer: if you get eaten by a spider i take no responsibility
I shit you not, last year Mrs. Memphis was bitten by a black widow on Sunday night in our tent. How it got there I do not know. But she had a bite on her abdomen by morning and was in quite a bit of nerve pain for a few days. She went to the doctor on Tuesday after roo, and they said it looked like a widow bite. No antivenom, just some nerve pills and some Loratab for pain.
I don't play with spiders like that. Yes it's an open field but people can bring spiders like widows in and not even know it. Her bite could have been from one onside or around a tote we brought to our tent.
Just be careful.
This year we are going to put hammocks under the ez up. Air mattress in the back of my SUV.

Yeah, there's always a risk of people introducing bugs from their basement/shed/etc. definitely something to keep in mind.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
Can anyone provide a review for this? I've got a large ez up-type canopy, but it has angled sides. We used it at Firefly last year but slept in a tent; this year we're just planning on sleeping in cots under a canopy so I'm thinking the angles would be detrimental. I'll post a picture of it when I get home tonight if anyone would give me some thoughts on it.
Also, can anyone provide pictures of their canopy-sleep setups? I'd greatly appreciate it!

hopefully somebody else can give you a review, ended up buying a 10'x10' tapered ez up like you speak of. i ended up sleeping in the tent last year, after seeing some of the bugs crawling around while we set up it deterred me from that idea

Yeah, I'm still a little hesitant because of the bugs but there just seem to be so many positive reviews on here of people sleeping under them..
Maybe I'll be convinced otherwise once we get there, and I'm bringing the tent anyway because my girlfriend wants it just in case.

yea if you got the screened in version, i'm sure that'd be a lot better than a canopy with tarps/bed sheets.
I did an ez up with shower curtains as my sides last year. Rolled the curtains up during the day for wind flow and the ez up was big enough for my queen matreess, 2 chairs, ice chest, and a shower section for taking camp showers. I plan on doing the same thing again this year except I bought side walls for my ez up and will just roll them up like last year during the day but it takes a lot less effort to have the name brand walls and not do the whole DIY thing this year. I wasted a lot of duct tape keeping the shower curtains taped closed at night for privacy lol For the hang out ez up tent at camp, I believe we're bringing different flags to hang up.
My neighbors last year just had a tent and during the day it would blow around. Someone was nice enough to move an ice chest into the tent to keep it weighted but it nearly blew away a few times last year. It made for some good laughs though. And obviously wasn't staked down properly.

So if I were to get this, do you think I'd also have room for my car and a shower area? (We're planning on bringing a camp shower with the little circular curtain thing.)
And then also two cots and a couple coolers under the canopy.. The shower will obviously be outside of the canopy.

my ez up is 10x10 so yeah... should have plenty of space. I'm doing a seperate small shower tent for camping this year. Last year I huddled in the corner of my ez up to shower but not this year. We had extra space last year and I gave it to our neighbors who had a 3 car group. You'll be fine.

I got the 13x15 dome, you're really going to love this thing for the farm. The mesh coleman uses on the screens breathes really well. I picked up a hammock of woot for cheap, this year I may ultimately put it under the canopy and ditch the tent altogether

I always debate doing this. We bring a piece of rug large enough to go on top of the tarp and my friend sleeps right on the ground with a blanket. He hasn't complained much about bugs or sun. I like the tent for privacy when I need to change or something. Easier than being in the car, and in case it rains.
I love sleeping under the ez up but recommend you bring and set up a tent as well. The storage is sweet and if we get any serious rain you'll want something to keep your stuff and possibly yourself dry in.

That's our plan. We figure sleep under the new canopy with some cots we've picked up as well, but we'll most likely still pop up the tent just for changing and/or torrential rain.

Just received this today.. Set it up with the girlfriend and it took about ten minutes to get everything up except for the screen - saving that for another day.
Very heavy duty; this thing is a beast. It comes in a carry case with wheels and the frame itself is extremely easy to expand. You just pick a post, pull on it and the whole thing telescopes out. Then it's just a matter of pulling the canopy over the top and attaching it to the posts via velcro straps.
The screen looks to be a little more of a task but is just comprised of hooks around the poles. Shouldn't be a big deal. Now I just need a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet and we're good to go.

Instead of an indoor outdoor carpet you might try this--Sams club sells these foam interlocking mats. The blocks are 2 feet by 2 feet and there are eight in a pack for $20. Get two of them and you can cover an 8 feet by 8 feet area and they don't get nasty if they get wet and muddy like a rug does and cleaning them is a breeze.
They also work great on the floor of your tent! Keeps the inside clean and will lengthen the life of your tent.

Interesting! I'll definitely look into this. Do they let water through them or is it going to pool on them if it starts pouring?

This is what they look like, and because of the seams the water will easily go through the cracks. But because they are solid, the mud won't easily come through unless it gets so liquid it oozes through the same seams. But even wet they are very light so you can just shake them out and they don't absorb water like a sponge.
