I live in York pa, I just wondering when I should leave. I was thinking about Thursday morning but I saw that most of you guys are leaving Wednesday during the day. If any of you guys live near me pm if you want to drive up together
We're leaving early (8:00am-ish) Wednesday morning. We'll have an 11-hour drive and hope to get camp set up, a few beers down and a good night's sleep Wednesday night for the long weekend.
Last year we left at noonish, drove all day Wednesday, arrived at the exit at 3:00am after a Wal-Mart parking-lot party, had camp set up at sunrise, but couldn't sleep because it got too hot. We never did sleep Wednesday night and paid for it the rest of the weekend.
We are leaving Pittsburgh around 5 pm Tuesday evening(Yes I know it is early) but, we like to get there early. We drive about 5-6 hours to just outside of Cincinnatti and stop and stay along the highway in some inexpensive hotel chain. We then get up after a good nights sleep, shower, have a full breakfast and then head to the Wallmart in Manchester where we arrive around 2 pm on wednesday. We like to do all of our food shopping at one place and get everything we need plus anything we forgot. It also lets us ice up the coolers real good for the week. By doing this we do not have to buy ice until we get to Manchester. We then get a good hot meal at a local restaurant and enjoy a couple of drafts then wait until we hear that they have opend the gates and then go and get into line. Hell, I wish I could go now.
It going to take me about 15 hours to get down there. I saw on here that if you get there to early you get put back in BFE. Also if you leave to late you get mad traffic. I was thinking about leaving 5 am on thurday. get there about 8- 9 pm. does this sound good to get a good spot or do you recomend leaving wendsday around 6 ot 7 pm (when i get off work)

i would say wed. night. that trip is so long. in past years i came form corning, ny. you could hang out somewhere till your ready to drive into the fest. i have seen plenty of people hanging out in the past. have a safe and fun trip!
I have talked to a lot of people that get there real early and right when the gates open and they usually get put way out in BFE. It takes me 12 hours to get there from Hampton VA I am leaving at 4 am on Thursday should be there around 4 pm hopefully . -Brian
