Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Thread is from 2013 but the same info still applies. Our meeting spot last year was even better than 2012, we had a large tent with a ton of seats off of the walkway between that tent and the what field/arch. 3-4 meetings every day, including one before LN, right after the What headliner.
So the support is definitely there if people in recovery need it. The largest soberoo meeting I've been to had 80 people there, pretty incredible.
Having said that, the choice about whether or not to attend bonnaroo as an addict is a very personal one. There were definitely some people at the meeting that were in no condition to be trying to do roo sober. If someone is early in their recovery, or otherwise on shakey ground spiritually/in their program, its a much better idea to take a pass. Bonnaroo is amazing, but its not worth risking your life for.
I'll take quality of sobriety over quantity of sobriety any day, but just for the record I was 6 years sober before I took on Roo (went in 03 and 04 definitely not sober). I did my first live music in sobriety at 2 years, first jamband shows at 3 years.
If any of your friends trying to make the decision would like to speak to me, I'd be happy to talk to them on the phone or through email. Will shoot you my contact info via PM.
EDIT: I'll add that a lot of the people at the Soberoo meetings have been doing Bonnaroo sober a long time. Someone last year commented she sees more regulars at the Soberoo meeting than at her homegroup.

My dad is involved in AA after being sober for almost 15 years, and I've been sober my whole life...so I've always been a silent supporter of this group!

Am I the only Roo goer that never drinks or uses any substance? I just feel that way sometimes.
Last year I didn't drink at all because being dehydrated at Roo sucks. I had a great time without booze. It was also sort of a personal challenge, which I won. I'll probably drink this year but it will definitely be in moderation.
