Los Angeles... Valentine's Day... 2004 Childhood friends Theresa Wayman and Emily Kokal form what we now know as WARPAINT with Jenny Lee and Shannyn Sossamon. Theresa, Emily, and Jenny still remain in the band while Stella is fourth drummer. Although she is the fourth drummer, she has played on both major releases. Only having one EP and two full album releases, you can see the bands progression, what they've been trying to achieve since they've started, and what they hope to become. Four women and one great sound. They have come far already and show no signs of slowing down.
Discography 'Exquisite Corpse'
After years of intense outer space training the foursome released their first EP 'Exquisite Corpse' in 2008. A small sample of what this group was made of, compared to future releases you can tell where the sound started and where the band wanted to take it. A much more simple effort their future outgoings. Consisting originally of five fuckyouup tracks, the group took their time and would next release their first LP...
'The Fool'
Released in fall of 2010, this album showed what the group really had to them. Could they nail their debut LP? Yes! Experimenting with their sound, the women evolved and incorporated elements of experimental and art rock, complimenting their already accessible, indie sound. It wasn't until this year, four years after the release of 'The Fool' do we realize what this group is fully capable of with the release of their eponymous album...
'WARPAINT'
With the help of producers like Flood and the godly finger tips of Nigel Goodrich, the band released their most powerful effort yet. This is the album to listen to, this is the sound to take in, and this is the WARPAINT you will want to love. An album full of the ups and downs you want and clocking in at a perfect 51 minutes, this is a must listen. I have been a fan of this group over the last year, and with this latest release I hope the band is here to stay. I love this record and I think they're capable of great things.
My favorite tunes!
I have yet to see this group live, therefore they are toward the top of my list this year. Don't miss this show, you won't regret it.
See you on the dance floor....
