On a more serious note: why dont they sell wine? That's just silly.
Yes, it's a superstore
How about those wacky Tennessee laws! I forgot to ask if they sell anything else alcoholic in cans, like Mike's Hard Lemonade, Irish Cider, etc.
I discovered Jeremiah Weed down at the walmart parking lot. There are a few alcoholic, flavored, and canned options in the walmart but not by the case.
A) I have never heard of such a thing B) The shipping company would be responsible and the appropriate taxes would be paid during the purchasing process
Also, isn't there some TN law that prohibits people from bringing alcohol from out of state?
There might be something in there but it may be for sales? If it's for drinking then call me Miles Davis. I've got beer in my fridge brought in from AL, WI, and Nova Scotia.
It's technically illegal in general to bring alcohol across state lines, I think.
I doubt that. How would people be allowed to order alcohol online from out of state?
It is actually. Delaware has a 0% sales tax so running across the state line to get cheap booze is Southern PA past time. No1 cares unless its a holiday weekend in which they run sting operations out of the liqueur store parking lot.

Oh and the fine is $50 to $100 dollars a bottle. Yea on a handle of booze thats alot, but its also per beer not case so imagine getting a $240 fine for a case of budlight.

Anyone willingly walking out of a liquor store - a place whose sole purpose is to offer a wide selection of beer and other adult beverages - with a case of Bud Light deserves a $240 fine for poor taste. I will allow exemptions for Beer Darts.

I wouldn't buy beer in TN, period. Their shit is a watered down version of the real thing.
What?
I also forgot about the dumb ass alcohol laws in TN. had to deal with that shit for seven years, it was very annoying. Can't buy liquor where they sell beer and vice versa,
It won't change by Roo this year, but the state just passed a law where places can put it to a vote whether to sell wine in grocery stores. It was amazing to watch something so small get made into a big deal by the liquor store owners.
plus you can't buy anything on Sunday.
This only applies to liquor. You can buy beer after noon.
I never noticed it before last year but when I visited family I went to the store for beer. While looking for a certain type of beer I noticed that the strawberitas alcohol content was at 5%, where I live they're around 7%. Then I started checking all the beers and they were all low. So they are selling a weaker version of the real thing. I drink a decent amount of beer that have a high alcohol content such as double IPA's. I don't think TN beer can have higher than a 5% alcohol content unless it's sold at a liquor store and usually those places will have a tiny selection of those high alcohol content beers.
Im sure it doesn't matter to some but I like my beer to taste how it's supposed to and the alcohol content is part of that.

With the gates opening a day earlier, is Walmart any less crowded? I remember awhile back talking to someone who said the day beofre Bonnaroo genertaes more business for Manchester Walmart than Black Friday/Weekend sale does.
We've been going in on Wednesday but last year the Wal Mart was not as crowded as normal. There were still people cramped out and the beer aisle was insane but I easily got in and out of the store with the few things I needed and had no problems. I think I even posted to the boards here from my phone letting y'all know it was oddly un-crowded and that even traffic and police presence didn't seem to be what it had been in past years.
Anyway I'll surely be at Wal Mart this year picking up some ice and last minute supplies so whomever is planning to hang out for a bit before the gates open, let me know and I'll say hi!
Who's hanging out in Manchester Walmart 's parking lot this year before the gates open Wednesday? I hear it's a huge party. This is my first Roo and I'm super stoked!!! For other first timers, The Walmart is a superstore, open 24-hours. I phoned there last week and the sweet local Tennessee lady said they sell beer until 3 a.m. Additional FYI - no wine is sold at Walmart - that's sold at the liquor store nearby. Tennessee state sales tax is 9.75 percent. Food tax is 7.75 percent. Ice at Walmart is $2 for 10 lb. bags. The address is 2518 Hillsboro Blvd., Manchester, TN 37355 at I-24 and Hwy. 41, Exit 114. Phone 931-728-6000.
Nice try, Manchester Walmart manager.
What? I'm not a Walmart manager nor was I trying to promote buying there. I know people who refuse to shop at Wallyworld and others who love it. That wasn't the intent. I just read on Inforoo (and can't find the tread - might be buried in archives) that this was a meet-up location for everyone who arrives before Bonnaroo gates open and over the years it has become a big tradition to party in the parking lot there. Being new to 'Roo, and trying to plan ahead myself, I was only trying to be helpful by passing on what I thought would be a bit of useful info. for anyone else driving to the Farm for the first time, or anyone who has never been to the Manchester Walmart.

Word to the wise: don't buy beer at the Wal-Mart. They price gouge like motherfuckers. Buy beer in Chattanooga or Nashville if you're coming from out of state. You'll be far enough out that there won't be many price ripples from Bonnaroo.
The only things you should pick up at the Wal-Mart are ice and anything of importance that you forgot.
I just buy my beer at home and empty one case into a cooler so it's cold when I get there. Is this not what other people do?
And the walmart being 24hrs comment was a joke. Pretty sure all walmarts everywhere are 24hrs, are they not?
I think they're all 24 hours in the south..... we southern folks love our walmarts haha! (i'm from arkansas... it's a joke)

Bars stop serving at 2am here. It's very annoying. I don't realize TN has such wonky laws when it comes to alcohol. Who'd a thunk it.
Yeah, that 2am thing is brutal. One of the many positives about moving back the Chicago area. Right down the street there's a bar/music venue that stays open til 3 Sunday-Thursday and 4 Friday and Saturday. If you're real hardcore you can walk to a 24/7 donut shop and eat, then walk down the street to another bar that opens at 6. I mean, I would never do that, but I heard some people do...
This is away from the original topic of the post but until I went to Chicago for my student teaching I had no idea bars were allowed to stay open past 2. I just thought it was a national law. I went there and every bar on my block was open till 4. I was amazed. My first weekend in Chicago I stayed out till like 3 am, woke up at 7 and went to the bar to drink for the Notre Dame/Navy game that was played in Ireland. I say that was the peak of my drinking accomplishments.
LOL, no worries, it's all good. As a noob, didn't want to offend anyone or have anyone thinking I was promoting Walmart over this, that or the other stores for beer, etc. I once worked with a guy who would rather die on the spot than shop in Wallyworld. He'd get on his soapbox and rage on and on about it. Re: buying beer there, I don't even drink beer - I'm non-celiac gluten intolerant. I prefer my vino!

Last year we stopped at a Walmart between Nashville and Manchester, not sure where. Anyways we ddint even realize but there was a Bud light promo going on out front. On our way out they saw us with 2 shopping carts full of BL and gave us a pretty cool wagon. It was perfect for carrying ice at roo and has since become a staple of our group(we put friends who pass out in it and wheel them away so they dont know where they are when the wake up). it will be making the trip back to roo with us again this year. I'd imagine similar stuff will be happening again this year in surrounding areas, so just another good reason to get the beer a little ways outide of Manchester.
I may be incorrect, but I've been told by more local Inforooers in the past that the Manchester Wally World does not hike prices on at least beer and food.

We don't ever stay on topic around here. But I also thought it was a national law of some sort... Had no idea till my cousin moved to Chicago. I think bars are open pretty late in NYC too?
All the bars I've been to in the Coffee County area stay open till 3:00am. They usually call "last call" @ 2:45am. Stores and gas stations stop selling beer at 3am, and start selling at 6am or 7am except on Sunday's they wait until 12pm. Liquor stores open at 8am and close at 11pm.
Here bars close at 2, last call at 1:45-ish. Stores stop selling at 1am & liquor sales stop at 10pm I believe, although that varies based on the hours of the store. I've never seen a liquor store open later than 10 though.
It's technically illegal in general to bring alcohol across state lines, I think.
In practice no police officer is going to write you a ticket for a sealed, personal quantity of alcohol in your trunk. You would have to bring in enough alcohol to look like you were selling. Just don't bring glass.
We have 24 hour drinking licences in England (but not Scotland, the power of devolution right there). Very few places actually operate them though. There are a few bars here open until 6am at the weekend, then some others might open not long after. Midweek a couple will serve until about 3am. Most supermarkets stop selling alcohol at 11pm but odd ones have a late licence I think. My local liquor store can serve until 3am but then we have dial-a-booze, where you pay someone to bring alcohol. It is generally £25 for 24 cans, or maybe £25 for a bottle of vodka. In the supermarket you might get those bottles for half that or just over and vodka is between £10 and £15. So it is expensive, but if you're having a party and run out, then y'know...
We don't distinguish for high gravity either, so once you are licenced to sell alcohol, you can sell spirits, wine, beer etc. I wouldn't have to go to the supermarket for cheap beer and then elsewhere for a bottle of whiskey.
frugal macdoogal opens at 8am in nashville. chances are you won't be able to beat their prices.
The best part about them is that they seem to give the middle finger to the whole idea of separation of beer and liquor in Tennessee. As pictured below, it is one building but two different businesses. The left door leads to the beer store. The right is the liquor store. You have to check out twice, but it's all the same place.

They were actually doing a promo like this with Keystone at the Manchester Wal Mart as well as the gas station near the Beans Creek Winery at Exit 111 in 2012. I think they may have been doing something at the gas station again this past year but I don't quite remember. I recall 2012 because they had the "Keith Stone" guy from the commercials appear at both stores.
