So tonight is the third and final installment of "road to Bonnaroo" at Nashville's "Mercy Lounge". One of these bands will play at the farm this year but wanted to pass the names along to you to at least check out. All Them Witches Buffalo Rodeo Guthrie Brown and Family Tree Bully Grass Roots Kid Little Bandit Kansas Bible Company Plastic Visions Sol Cat Frances and the Foundation
In order and quick thoughts: Sol Cat - gave zero positive vibes, didn't seem even thankful to be here. All Them Witches - killer guitar riffs, wanted more of that. Will follow up with them on Spotify. Guthrie Brown and the Family Tree - I think this was Woody Guthrie'a grandson. Still wet behind the years but I liked them and could see them on the farm. Little Bandits - talented group but potentially too conservative and constrained. I'm sure their recordings to spotless though.
Buffalo Rodeo - I think the sound guy skipped the set for a smoke because I heard zero guitar and muddy vehicles. I want to like them but circumstances make it difficult. So far they at least win the "most likely group of people I'd follow to an amazing show at Bonnaroo" award. Frances and the Foundation - Bassist Frances and her two cohorts ba-rought it! Don't know who to compare them too. Felt familiar (later thought they're today's "crucial taunt") but unique enough that every moment of their set was theirs. I mean when you can convincingly incorporate cowbell in a verse...hoping this song is Spotify.
And that was it folks. Work calls so I had to head home to get some rest. Check out all of these bands because one of them will be playing Bonnaroo 2014!
