Is Bonnaroo like Coachella where the headliners bring out guest artists? Like, will Kanye show up for the Pusha T show or will Frank Ocean show up for Kanye's to perform? Or will Jay Z shock everyone and make a guest appearance? I know no one can tell me who would show up that's not on the lineup, but do these type of things ever happen at Bonnaroo?

Things happen. There's been surprise parades, last year's superjam surprised us with Brittany Howard + other people not listed as being in the superjam, the year before that D'Angelo was brought out to perform his first show in a decade...Big Gigantic performed with Umphrey's in 2012..it happens. I think there's a much greater chance though that any surprise appearances will be with performers already on the lineup, because it's much more difficult to get a guest to come out to the middle of Tennessee for a one-off show than it is to convince them to come to Coachella. There'll probably be a few surprises this year, but something like Pharrell's show is never going to happen.
But then again, Ashley Capps did say in the AMA that at one point they were trying to involve Kanye in a surprise performance, so you never know!
It happens, but not on the same level that you see at Coachella. With many of the Coachella guest appearances it's rather easy for celebrities and other musicians to get there with it being a short 45 min flight from LA, where a lot of people in the entertainment industry are located.
At Bonnaroo you tend to see guest appearances by acts that are already on the schedule coming out to collaborate with one another, for example Kenny Rogers with Phish a couple years ago. However, Lionel Richie did randomly pop up that same year during Kenny's set.
For 2014, I would anticipate Kanye having a couple special guests, no one huge like Jay Z but I could def see him bringing out Pusha T, Big Sean, John Legend or really anyone else on GOOD Music. Also, I have a feeling Elton will want to do something since this is his first North American festival appearance. I wouldn't be surprised if he brought out Leon Russell or Lady Gaga, both have breaks in their touring schedules during Bonnaroo.

Yes, there will be guest appearances similar to what happens at other festivals. I doubt we'll get anything as big as Beyonce or Jay-Z showing up unannounced but there may be a few surprises here and there. This thread is all about wanted collaborations for 2014: www.inforoo.com/thread/32724/collaborations-2014
Now that the question has been answered I'm going to lock this up. Probably going to set up a "Random Questions" or "Frequently asked questions" thread since we seem to be having a lot of new members creating brand new threads for each individual question that comes up (even though there are LOTS of threads that already exist with these answers). Stay tuned for that soon
