Are you wanting an optimal view for both shows? If that is the case I would just work on getting close to the rail for VW. Its a good spot to see everything and you don't have to clear out after each show. If you have shows that you are seeing up until VW then that's not going to work and just disregard this post.

I would like a good spot for each lol. the only other artist I want to see Friday (If the leaked schedule is legit) is Sam Smith and I think it said his set was at like 230-ish.... I mean this is my first Roo so I'm not sure when the What starts getting packed. :/

Honestly it depends on who is playing it throughout the day. I was camped at the What most of the day on last years Friday for Paul McCartney. I got to see some great shows that I was interested in enough, but also missed some epic shows that I really wanted to see, to ultimately lose my spot for Sir Paul anyway. It was a tough call between Wilco and Wu-Tang, I like both, but Wu-tang would/should have won. I stayed for Wilco which was good, but I felt regretful for missing the Wu.
Good call on Sam Smith! He is one of my must see shows and I will definitely be at that show.

There are for sure a couple pit threads from last year. Couldn't have looked too hard. Try google searching and just add inforoo to the end. I know the proboards search is a little finicky at times

Edit: Wilco opened for Paul
How did you lose out on your spot?
Well it was my own fault. I was with a friend and his girlfriend and I really had to piss (they both pissed in bottles or cups, which I would normally have no problem doing, except I was feeling "paranoid" because there was this girl staring at me the whole time I was trying to do the same). So I got out of the crowd and did my thing, this was during Wilco. I was getting back through the crowd and it took too long to find them. By the time I did, his GF felt to claustrophobic and wanted to move back and so I obliged. It was still a 100% enjoyable show from the distance, but we weren't too far from the rail initially.

Im trying to decide what time I am going to have to arrive at the What in order to have a secured place i nthe first row of the pit for VW and AM, anyone got some scoopz?
I've looked and looked and can't find any threads with the answers that I need....
1. Around what time should I get into the Pit line for Kanye to get a decent spot?
2. How is the view while in line? I don't want to miss VW.
3. Is it possible to wait until after the VW set to get into line? (has anyone done this?)
I don't regret getting close to Macca in the pit last year, but if I had to go back and do it again I would have aimed for the back rail instead. That Local Natives > Passion Pit > Wilco marathon "sounded" amazing, but I very much regret not "seeing" it.
So no, in either pit line, you won't have any line of sight of the stage or even the screens (unless you're in the back of the line that angles out into the field).
A lot of people in 2011 got in the pit for both My Morning Jacket and Arcade Fire by just jumping back into the end of the Arcade Fire line at the end of MMJ. The pit line for a main headliner may look daunting, but the pit is deceptively large and a lot of people fill into it. I'd maybe try seeing most of VW and then head towards the pit line close to the end of their set. If you don't get in right away, don't give up; stay in line. Most people abandon the pit line when it first fills up because they don't think they'll get in anymore, but they institute a person in/person out policy. A lot of people leave due to needing to pee/disinterest/wanting to leave for another set. Also, security may determine that more people can fit in shortly after the set and let more people in.
Kanye's a big headliner, but I don't think there will be as much issue getting into his pit compared to a headliner like Macca, or even Radiohead.

As early as possible obviously. I'd guess sometime during the start of the first set on that stage. For perspective, the Passion Pit line (who played in the AM spot on Friday last year) started getting huge at the What Stage in between Trombone Shorty and Local Natives (who were the two sets before PP). I'd say that by midway through Local Natives, there were more people in the line than there was space on the rail, but that it would still be really easy to get two or three rows of people back. Really, the most people come before the set starts. They either fill out the back of the line or try to be dicks and crash the front. Luckily, security was really good last year about keeping that from happening.
There have been a good deal of headliners that haven't even filled the pit up. I honestly think people see the line and just say fuck it, it's too long. Me and noage were pretty far back in the pit line for radiohead and ended up pretty close to the stage in the pit bc every races to middle. It all depends on the situation. You can always check it early and decide what you want to do. Start waiting or come back later.

I felt bad for everyone that had spent their entire day waiting in that pit line when you two guys got a good spot after joining the line five minutes before they went on. That was definitely a Roo victory for you two.

This.
Will be working on a FAQ thread shortly with links to some common questions. Tons of repeat threads popping up lately.

You better be bringing that pit line voodoo for Kanye this year
We got great spots for Bjork and Macca last year, too. Don't let the line scare you away, the pit is pretty large.
I got in line 20 mins before Bjork and the pit didn't even fill up at all (the line actually looked really long and I was starting to worry). There was plenty of room around me in the pit. I thought it was going to be packed but it wasn't. I get really scared of the pit because I am only 5' tall and feel like I am going to get trampled on if it gets too packed.
Being in the Bjork pit was one of the best experiences of my life - there was plenty of room to put my bag down and dance, and we didn't even have to wait long in the pit line. I'm looking forward to seeing all or most of Cut/Copy this year and then still getting the pit for Jack.

I've only ever done the pit once, for Dead weather and I showed up as soon as the band before them ended.
My question is, how do the lines work? I mean, when I've see "the line" I've always thought it was a single line to get into the pit for the next immediate show. Lets say I showed up by 12:30 on Sat to get a spot for Arctic Monkeys at 5. How will I line up for a a band 2 shows from now? is there a seperate line for each show of the day at the stage?
How is the line for late night? Like, if I want to be in the pit for someone going on around 2am, when should I aim to be in line?
If it is in a tent, there is no pit line. It is first come, first serve so you might wanna be there for the band before at least. When we got rail for The Word a few years back, we got there 90 minutes before showtime.

I just waited on the side for Empire of the Sun last year and made the push along with others and made it to the front....

He means there is no pit at all in the tents. You'll see two small pits in the tents, but those are reserved for Total Access/Roll Like a Rockstar people. There have been varying reports that VIPs can gain access to these pits as well, but it seems to be dependent on the person working it, and how crowded it is right then. Some people say they got in, some say they got turned away.
If you want a front row, you have to either get there early to stake your spot, or be a total douche and force your way up. Chose the former!

My problem with the pits is that the lines are so ill-defined. Half the time you're not sure if you're if you're in line or just standing next to some dudes. I have also frequently found myself thinking that I'm at the end of a line but there are bunch of people sittin around on blankets claiming that they're in line, too.
Also, was anybody else here in line for Jay Z? That line turned almost violent (by Bonnaroo standards anyways). Lots of pushing and shoving.
Some better definition of what constitutes being in line would be helpful. Glad to hear that there were some strides made last year for the busier shows. I certainly had no problems at Jack Johnson but I suppose that's too be expected.

I agree with this. The line for Bjork was twisting and turning and there were "vague" spaces between them where you couldn't tell if people were waiting for pit or just hanging out for the general section. Part of the line got lost because it went around people sitting on blankets.
Has anyone ever been the first person in the pit line. How does one start the line like is there a designated spot to start it, or are you like "yep this is where the line starts cuz I'm the only guy so far". I'm actually confused haha.
