The Black Keys started streaming their new album on iTunes this week, and the critics have spoken!
"What made them great is now gone. They started spending to much time producing in the studio. I'm a big fan but the last two outings are nothing to get excited about." - Quindarious SweetDeals Thompson
"It sucks, synthesized crap." - Treavor Williams
"Danger Mouse blows and is ruining this band. F that guy!!!" - Matt Slye
"The black keys are a disgrace to popular culture. Likely the second least talented band behind muse. Just go away dirtbag rip off sellouts." - Rob Palmer
"Sigh. I guess I'll just go listen to Magic Potion and reminisce of the time when The Black Keys was a rock band..." Ed Plozai

Haven't listened yet.....what's the Inforoo consensus? Shit or mediocre?
I'm a fan of the band and have liked their last few records more than others seem to. I do wish I could go back to the earlier days and catch them in small venues though. Magic Potion holds a place in my heart because it's the first full album of theirs I heard in college. The radio station had a copy of it and I had read a bunch about them so I checked it out and enjoyed it. Went on to get all their other stuff and became a big fan. I don't listen to them as much as I used to but that doesn't mean I like them any less.
As far as "sellout" bands go I tend to love their marketing more than most. Using Bob Odenkirk as a used car salesmen and that dancing dude for their music video made me laugh.
Danger Mouse did produce Attack and Release which was pretty much like by all so I'm not sure I understand that quote. But the days of garage blues rock is over with The Black Keys and this is nothing new. I personally like The Big Come Up and the Magic Potion sound that they had more than what they have done lately.

I listened through the new album. I like it. Nothing great. A very sharp departure and I think its general lack of intensity will be the last stroke for them as a good live band. But the album isn't terrible. Maybe my least favorite of their releases, but I enjoyed Brothers and El Camino a decent amount, and this definitely requires more listens.

I am a huge fan of the Black Keys. I struggled to stay awake listening to the album. The use of synths just did not seem to fit the songs. The album did have a few high points and it may grow on me, but for now the album is a disappointment in my point of view.

I am big fan of The Black Keys also. At first listen to the new album my reaction is its just ok. Im sure I will listen to it more and more and find certain songs I enjoy. But it definitely didn't smack me in the face and say turn that shit up like Thickfreakness and Magic Potion did the first time I heard those albums.

FatPossum is once again doing a $10 sale on records. I think it's just the old Black Keys stuff right now but in the past they've done $10 vinyl across their whole site. Picture discs are $15 but regulars are $10.

Anyone see them perform on SNL tonight? I'm usually not a fan of SNL performances, for whatever reason, and this was no exception. Seemed to be lacking something. Also, the songs didn't seem very interesting to me. I haven't listened to the new album at all. Is a lot of it low energy and mildly depressing? With a album title like "Turn Blue" I can only assume the album is hitting a darker more somber note.
They were terrible on SNL. But I really don't like the Black Keys at all.
EDIT: They're terrible live because they have no stage presence and are awkward as fuck. Most of their songs aren't great either, especially since Brothers.

I'm not a gigantic fan of the black keys (I have el camino and have a heard songs off some of their albums,) but in general I like their music. I was not impressed with their SNL performance, it seemed to be dragging and their wasn't much stage presence overall.

I've seen some really awesome SNL performances but they tend to be from the artists that you expect them to be great (Kanye, Arcade Fire, Beck). I'm sure the Black Keys were alright but nothing extraordinary. Will be watching in a little while.
