I waited for trampled by turtles in 2012 for about an hour. Other than that I've never really waited for anyone. I'd rather see multiple acts from afar.
I've never tried to get in the pit either. Since seasick steve is the first to play do yall think I'll be able to show up to the pit like 30 minutes early?

Isn't he playing in a tent? If so, then there is no pit.

Nope, he opens the What on Saturday.
nopaya, your plan should be fine. I've never had an issue getting pit early in the day on What.
This year I plan on staying at the Other Tent on Friday for Sam Smith, Danny Brown, The Naked and Famous, and CHVRCHES. But that's just because I really like the lineup. And Danny Brown is actually one of those shows where I need to be up front so I can be where all the fun is
But Skrillex might be really hard to leave (as far as I'm going to be having so much fun there I'm not going to want to leave)....it's gonna be one of those in the moment decisions. I have a feeling I'm going to experience his show at least a little bit because I'll be roaming around partying. So I feel like I'll just happen to come by during a cool moment for a couple songs at least.

Can't really fault that, Skrillex is a great performer too. Just a personal preference to Chance, have seen him once before and he just blew the roof off the venue. No way I'm missing him at a festival where he seems to go even harder.
This is starting to be one of my top conflict. No matter what Im gunna catch Chance's show, but do I skip Skrillex in general to get a good spot for Chance, that is the question!!

Usually regardless of how good the act is by 2:30am you can get a decent spot in almost any tent.

Doing the exact same thing! See you on the rail my friend.

Oh I have another two.
I skipped Kings of Leon in 2010 to be front row for LCD Soundsystem with Bassnectar coming on before hand. But if you don't count Bassnectar, I waited about four or five hours for that LCD show.
Also waited most of the afternoon at What for Radiohead. But I waited a little too long. Got there at the end of Sharon Jones. Moved up steadily for Avett Bros>Rodrigo y Gabriela>Radiohead. But that was too much standing. It's better to wander around a bit longer before settling on one spot.
Oh, #3) I waited almost all day in intense heat for the White Stripes at Which in 2007. Probably like 5 hours, watching Wolfmother and Decemberists. But I was 17 then, and survived alright.
Tent waiting is way easier than stage waiting because the Sun.

We stayed in the pit line for DMB back in 2010 but in all fairness we did so with 4 other people and took turns roaming in pairs with the other 4 holding the spot. In addition, with John Butler Trio, Zac Brown Band and Jon Fogerty on the main stage while we took turns waiting close to the stage anyway, its not like we were waiting in a line seeing nothing as all of them (especially JBT) were entertaining. We even planned who would stay and who would go based on what we wach wanted to see at the other stages. Otherwise, no possible way I would miss an entire day of Roo to be close for one band. The other acts at that stage would have to be bands I want to see.

Last one, but I've been looking for a place to share this one. My dad and little brothers waited all day on the left side of the pit for Paul McCartney. Part of me wishes I'd gone with them. Didn't. Oh well. However, the crew gave my 11 year old brother the set list. Seriously.
I waited 14 hours for rail for Paul last year. Everyone around you is cool just make friends. People recognize you've been waiting all day with them and You aren't cutting if you run to the bathroom real quick.
This will be my first year, but definitely not my first concert. I'm pretty short, which sucks, but I've learn to accept the fact that I'll either 1) not be able to see, or 2) get there super early to get a good spot. This year, my favorite band twenty one pilots is the first to play What stage on Sunday. So my question is, how will I have to go about getting a spot up front? I'm totally fine with waiting for hours or whatever. I just don't know where I need to go or what to do to be one of the first people at the What stage.

3 hours for David Byrne & St Vincent, but my legs were like noodles after a long Saturday night, so I was more than happy to sit along the fence and wait to get in the pit for my #1 act two years ago.
2011 was our first year, we got there on Friday, got in centeroo at 230, and didn't think to bounce around stages. So we were at the What from 230 until Arcade Fire ended at 11ish.

The pit entrance is on the left side of the stage. Jut walk all the way over and you'll see it. After that just get in line. If there isn't one, then you're first. If there are multiple ask which one is for your show. But if it's the first show of the day on what I doubt you have to get there super early. I don't think the pit line will be very long for the first show of the day.

Since twenty one pilots are the first band playing the main stage on Sunday (2:30 pm) you'll be able to get there pretty early. I think the main stage area closes at night for some cleaning, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you should be able to go in there upwards of 4hrs before their set starts. Just go through the arc, head towards the right or left of the stage and you should see some 14yr old girls that look they just walked out of a Hot Topic, possibly with their parents, that's the line for the pit. It's possible that some people will be making a line for Billy Joel or Florence, so make sure you're in the right line. Look for people wearing ski masks in 100% humidity. If you don't see a line you might be the first person, in that case just ask security where the line for the pit is and you can start it. Since the pit doesn't really get packed and you are so close to the stage you should have no problem seeing the stage even if you're short and you are not at the rail.
Waited for about 4 hours in a tent for Empire of the Sun at Roo in 2013. What I didn't realize is that Billy Idol was on before EOTS, and it is still one of my most cherished Roo memories.

I'm gonna catch Shakey Graves which ends at 1:15. Twenty One Pilots hits the stage at 2:30. You think I will have enough time to make it to What to guarantee myself a spot in the pit for Twenty One Pilots?
Also longest I have waited would be like 2 and a half hours for McCartney and Jack White. Basically watched the Pre HL and then caught the show I was waiting for. Wilco pre HL for Paul and that was a horrible wait. Lionel pre HL'd for Jack White and that was one of the best hours wait of the weekend!!

I would hope that's plenty of time, but I have no idea. They have some pretty dedicated fans, but it's an early Sunday set and those are rarely crowded.
