Members: George Clarke – vocals (2010 – present) Kerry McCoy – guitar (2010 – present) Daniel Tracy – drums (2012 – present) Stephen Clark – bass guitar (2013 – present) Shiv Mehra – guitar (2013 – present)
Biography: Out of the ashes of a deathcore band even I hadn't heard of comes this band. The press releases focus on the vocalist and guitarist like The Mars Volta, but all of their work is definitely much more a team effort. The rhythm guitarist (which was Kerry on the 2011 tour if I'm not mistaken), bassist and drummer have been swapped out between records, but they are very good at finding talent. Both drummers I've seen them play with are beasts, the latest one has much more of a jazz feel. This band is definitely inspired by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, shoegaze, and bands that work within a longer song format. Not much else to say, their approach is much more emotive than applied technicality(Between The Buried and Me, Dillinger Escape Plan) if that makes sense.
Major Discography: Roads to Judah (2011) - Feels like a winter album, could just be my bias of wearing out the cd when it came out. "Violet" has an ice cold aquatic vibe, when the water starts to freeze near my house. The ending to "Language Games" just soaks of regret to me, great guitar line. "Unrequited" starts with the ethereal, smacks you with the chugging, and becomes very upbeat about midway through. Reminds me of something a monarchy would play after a hard fought victory. Sunbather (2013) - Obvious summer theme, from the pink album cover to the lighter sonic elements. They got more "post-rock" with the absence of the songwriter that played those lead parts from the previous album live and focused on his own project (Whirr). The end of the album has a chord progression you'd hear on your mom's Top 40 radio station, but in this context it is very refreshing. "Vertigo" starts with a nice jam, builds with one of those "epic" guitar solos, and explodes like a freight train suddenly running you over, before finally cooling off before a tragic funeral procession.

Physical Reaction/Live Show
Welp, the lead singer wears black gloves that have you convinced he killed Nicole Simpson. Kerry will keep to himself, and George will strike different postures while gripping the mic-stand. I've seen videos of him crowd surfing recently, would be cool and similar to St. Vincent in 2012. The drummer again is an absolute beast and will probably knock some great fills out of the park when you're expecting regular parts, but he won't overdo it. I saw them on the Roads to Judah tour opening for Russian Circles, as well as their tour last summer. Neither crowds really moved around as much as took it in mentally, I imagine the pit at Roo will be much different. Think Opeth meets Explosions in the Sky crowd wise. They have been playing the the acoustic & piano tracks from the album in between songs/tuning, but should easily knock out 4-5 songs during their set.
CONCLUSION: This is definitely a must-see for me, not only as a fan of the band but as a Bonnaroo vet. Should be very interesting to see how their set translate in a LN tent. Probably the only set LN Friday and Saturday I will be at for it's entirety.
