ZZ Ward (born Zsuzsanna Eva Ward) calls her sound, "Dirty Shine", a mix of blues, hip-hop, soul and pop. She was born in 1986 in rural Abington, Pennsylvania. In May of 2012 ZZ released the "Criminal" EP with three other songs, "Put the Gun Down", "Til the Casket Drops" and "Move Like U Stole It". All those songs appear on her debut album, Til the Casket Drops, which was released by Hollywood Records on October 16, 2012.
I discovered ZZ after the Bonnaroo lineup dropped. Her bluesy, sultry sound lured me in and I kept on listening. Her album was a favorite on a very long roadtrip my daughter and I took this spring. Bring your dancing shoes and come meet up with me on Thursday at 6pm for her set at That Tent.
