Hey you guys!
Second time going to Roo. I really want to bring a flag into Centeroo to easily be a beacon for my friends since I didn't find cell phones to be really reliable last year. I have heard some conflicting information about what I can bring in, so I wanted to see what you guys have experienced. On the festival entry page it says they just can't be made of metal, but I've heard people say they can't be more than 3 feet. I was looking to get a retractable pole like this one.

Yeah, I've had trouble finding my friends too. I brought in a retractable pole/stick last year that worked well but it was much smaller than the photo of the one you are thinking of buying. That one looks like a hiking pole and they may not let you in with something that big...but I don't know. (maybe more people will chime in with what worked for them.)
The one I used was simply one half of a rabbit ears antenna off of an old TV set. It retracts down to about 8 inches and fit very nicely in my cinch sack on my back bringing it into Centeroo. I was not questioned going through security but they could have given me a hard time. I could have also hidden it under my shirt tucked under my waist belt of my pants... anyway...when it is extended it is about 3 feet. Then with my arm extended it was above my head about 4 1/2 feet. I put duct tape on the sharp edge where I cut it off from the old TV so it would not cut me. I couldn't put something heavy on the end when it was extended because the wire/metal got kinda thin and flimsy up there. It was great at night because I put a colorful fluorescent yellow blinky light up there using duct tape and told all my friends the general area I'd be in and then told them to go-to-the-light. Maybe someone else has ideas as well because I see people all the time in Centeroo with stuff on tall sticks they carry around and they managed to get those into Centeroo. I just wanted something small so I wouldn't have this huge thing to lug around. I hope you find something that works for you.

they won't let you in with that.. i had a 4 foot pole last year that got confiscated.
Last year, a guy in our group made a flag pole out of PVC and I think duck tape (but maybe he had some sort of connections for the PVC). It was definitely in pieces and he put it together after we got camp set up, it lasted all weekend, and was about 10 feet tall. He also had a stand to put it in, which we secured with something along the lines as tent spikes. I don't think PVC is on the "do not bring" list, but this also might be a bit more work than you're looking to do too..?

If they say no, get back in line and go to a different security guard. Repeat until you're inside.

I bring in a 5' pool noodle, friend brings in a 3' light up toy sword.. Never had the noodle confiscated, ONE time a guard told us he had to leave the sword in a pile of other stuff at the gate to get back when we headed back to camp. My vote is that its low risk, in that they don't take it, just you have to remember to get it again on your way out. Stick it in your backpack and being 40 something inches when collapsed and non metallic I doubt you'll have a problem.
If the lines werent so long at the time of the sword issue, we would have done what the guy above me said and went to another line or entrance.
