I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but is anyone here going to this? It is at the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro, NC on July 23-26.
Lineup includes Wye Oak, The Clientele, Destroyer, Caribou, Lambchop (performing Nixon), Neutral Milk Hotel, The Rock*A*Teens, Ex Hex, Bob Mould, The Mountain Goats, Superchunk, The Love Language, Teenage Fanclub, Mount Moriah, William Tyler, Reigning Sound, David Kilgour & the Heavy 8s, Imperial Teen, Telekinesis, Eleanor Friedberger, Hiss Golden Messenger, Amor de Días, Saint Rich, The Music Tapes, Vertical Scratchers, Hospitality, and Mikal Cronin.
It has been soldout for a while, but I just got a Saturday day pass to see NMH, Caribou, Mikal Cronin, and Ex Hex. Should be a great day!
I'm guessing it will be in the parking lot. Was hoping it would be in the Carrboro town commons (a park/field), but come to think of it, every concert they've had there has been free/open to the public.
Whole lineup is great, but I'm super excited to see Caribou again. Been a couple years. One of the absolute best live acts.

BTW I went to Merge XX and it was awesome. So happy they have set times this year versus showing up and randomly finding out who is performing. The outdoor stage is going to be great too.

That was really dumb, imo. I enjoyed the nights I went to, but I wasn't crazy about one of the nights' lineups/would not have been pleased had I shelled out $35 for it.
Compared to XX, this year was far superior. The planning and small perks (AC, free coffee, and free pizza yesterday) made the festival comfortable. However, I could have easily skipped Wed and Thur. Even though there were solid shows by The Clientele, Hiss Golden Messenger, and Lambchop, those first two days felt underwhelming.
That all changed with Hospitality's set on Friday. Holy shit they are a tight live band. Lots of hooks, tempo shifts, and moments of dark psychedelica. Imperial Teen, David Kilgour, and Mountain Goats all put on entertaining performances. Then, Wye Oak happened. Another holy shit moment. The material from Shriek is clearly meant for live performances. It's amazing how much sound comes from two people on stage. Following WO was yet another holy shit moment from Destroyer, performing as an 8 piece band. Dan Bejar didn't do anything other than sing and let his backing band jam the fuck out. Soaring saxophone solos! Glitching trumpet freak outs! During those moments, Dan plopped down on the ground, sipped beer, and swayed back and forth to the rhythm with his eyes shut.
Saturday was plagued by unbearable humidity. Every band before Caribou struggled to get energy levels up due to the sweltering heat. It didn't help Margaret Cho was the most annoying human being at the festival, and they let her have a microphone (and I'm a fan). I hung back under the PBR tent to watch Love Language, Ex Hex, Mikal Cronin, Bob Mould, and Teenage Fan Club, all of which would have benefited from being a Cats Cradle show. Once the sun settled behind the stage, Caribou got most of the crowd thumping. Showcasing Swim and a few unreleased tracks (there may have been a Daphni cut in there too), Caribou quickly took the show of the weekend title...until Neutral Milk came out. I've seen NMH 5 times since their reunion and this was by far the best performance. Jeff seemed animated and kept talking about how much he appreciates Merge. The show was practically a giant sing a long and, for the first time, they sounded tight-not sloppy-as a live band.
Top 5: 1. Neutral Milk Hotel 2. Caribou 3. Destroyer 4. Wye Oak 5. Hospitality
Only made it to Saturday. Ex Hex and Mikal Cronin were great. Couldn't enjoy Bob Mould cause the humidity was getting to me (thank god inside was open.) Really enjoyed Teenage Fanclub. I'd never listened to them before the fest, but I'm a convert now. Especially enjoyed Everything Flows, which they closed with and jammed out. Caribou was easily my favorite set of the day. All kinds of next levelness going on and it was perfect at sunset. Neutral Milk Hotel were killer and it was great to see them outside, at night. Overall, lots of joy packed into one day.

Agreed. I found it difficult to enjoy the earlier shows.
First time seeing Caribou. F*cking amazing. Lost my sh*t when they played Sun. Can't Do Without You from their upcoming record was another highlight.
Was surprised to see Jeff and Julian hanging out after their set. Got to speak with them and get my dollar bill signed.
Had a great time Saturday at Merge 25. Ex Hex and Mikal Cronin were both great. Bob was good, but as many have stated, that heat took it out of me at that point. Teenage Fanclub was awesome and I really have only been a casual fan, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the performance. Watching Caribou create soundscapes was one of my favorite concerts moments of the year. The show started slow, but when it got going...incredible. And of course Neutral Milk Hotel. Missed the show at Roo to see Chvrches and Phoenix with my gf, but I can't imagine a better show than the one I saw Saturday night. Truly in awe at some points during the show and just got lost in the music. Jeff didn't miss a beat and I sang along with the whole crowd the entire set. It may just be me, but the personal build up to that show just made it something so special. Overall, the experience was great and I loved the venue and all the great people I met.
