Long time lurker on this amazing resource of information and 4-time Roo survivor here and I need some help, folks!
The Short Story: I've been lucky enough to get the chance to report on Roo for my Tennessee town's best online news resource w/ my trusty photographer....but have no idea how to plan travel time/camping arrangements/gear transport.
I know that this board usually silences detail talk about Press Pass information ...but if anyone could impart some basic information I'd be crazy grateful.
The press tent is behind the Which stage I believe (I should know this, we just went over it today but my head is fried). But other than that I don't think there is any difference. Your press pass will just allow you access to the press tent and whatever approved access you get at each stage.
definitely search press/media pass, wristband, access on the boards. there are def other posts about it.
in terms of camping, media usually camps in GA camping, unless you were given a Guest wristband, which some media does receive. There is a HUGE difference between the two. Assuming you'll just have media passes and GA camping, here are a few key things to keep in mind:
you do not have to wait in line for centeroo. you get to walk through the exit. (at least this is how it has been done in the past). there are also other side entrances you can enter from GA camping, where staff can enter, technically you are working! there is a media tent, where you can charge your gear, free wifi, air conditioning, shade, lots of water, etc.
lot's of fun Q & A's with artists every day, that they won't really tell you about until the morning of. listed on a white board outside the media tent.
if you see an artist near the media tent, don't be afraid to tell them who you are with and if they have a second for a quick interview/photo/video. before or after a show, you can do the same.
you can enter the pit (for most stages- more than likely not the Which Stage) for the first 3 songs of a show (so plan your bands you want to cover in the pit around that timing.) however this recently changed when they started giving out photo passes. meaning your photographer may be the only person in the pit, which means they might not let you in. so my tip is, if you want to get in the pit, always enter the stages from the backstage area (accessible from behind the scenes where the media tent is). if you come FROM backstage, no one will ever give you shit. if you come up TO the stage trying to get in without a photo pass, then it's harder.
you will have access to a nice spot to buy grub, a little on the expensive side, but always good, near the media tent.
bring lots of rain gear/plastic bags/ziplock bags.
i can't think of anything else, but hit me up if you have any other questions.
the only thing left is "when/where do I pick up my Media and Photo wristbands?" but I'm sure if I wander around Manchester tomorrow I can find out
A girl in our group that I'm picking up on the way down asked me to stop in Manchester at a hotel to pick up the press pass. She thought they may also allow for our vehicle entering Roo somewhere besides the regular tollbooths. Anybody have any info on that?
We used to pick up the VIP tickets at the hotel. I would think for logistics reasons they wouldn't make you go back to the GA tollbooths but Im not 100% sure. When are you picking the press pass up?
I'm still hoping for more info on when and where to pick up the passes but I got high hopes
I'm sorry, but that information is sent with your confirmation. I can't post that info here. If you were confirmed for a media pass, that info was sent to you/your editor who applied for the media pass. Contact them, or Roo press team, asap.
I think you pick them up at the conference center by the Holiday Inn. Unless it's been changed. But I know they have done it there the past couple years. That's where I pick mine up this year and the past 3 also.
Yeah, nice pic for sure, dan. They'll let you know this week about all things check in my man. And they'll give you directions to the farm from the pick up spot. It's normally pretty last minute when they send you the stuff. You can probably pick up media on Wed evening, but it may be Thursday morning. Most other non-GA passes have to wait until Thursday.
