I have arachnophobia so I'm not sure I should go to bonnaroo. Are the big spiders where the festival and parking is? Or are they just at the campsite? Please please please let me know, I have to make my decision today :/
there are some fairly good sized spiders out in the camping areas. The area is not swarming with them but they are there. To my knowledge, no one has suffered a bite or has encountered a poisonous species. Because, we're basically camping in a field. They probably get smushed in the parking lots and Centeroo so they have evolved to know to stay out of those areas.

They are my only phobia and I am totally unreasonable when it comes to spiders. I have only seen them at the campsites. And yes I've seen them every year, but only one or two. The spray they use, kills everything except spiders and ants. Some are big grass spiders, but they will mostly keep out of your way. I've learned to keep calm and try to ignore them, and thankfully I have friends who understand and get rid of them for me
My phobia is really bad, but it would NEVER stop me from going to Bonnaroo. This will be my 9th year and I don't even really think about it until I see one. I'm not even sleeping in a tent this year, so that is how much of a non-issue it is
Just an FYI, it doesn't sound like they used spray this year. A volunteer who is already on the farm said the bugs are prevalent. Not that I am discouraging you from going, but you should know what you're getting yourself into. I myself have an extreme (and justifiably so) fear of ticks & that volunteer found three on her over the course of a morning, maybe longer. But I am still going. I'll be freaking out every time I feel a bug-like creature on my skin, but hopefully that will end up working to my advantage. I already hate ticks waaay too much to allow their useless & pernicious existence to steal any happiness from my life by keeping me from my first roo. But spiders aren't even evil creatures like ticks! So yes, you should still go

They are everywhere. On your tent. In your sleeping bag. In your food supplies.
But, worst of all, they always try to push forward to get on the rail for the best shows. Just because they cause an unnatural response, they feel they are entitled to get in front of people who have waited for hours for a spot.
Oh, you were talking about spiders. I thought this was about jerks.
Never saw one last year.

I've seen a fair few of daddy long legs and those really small clear looking ones, but it hasn't been too bad. Like Dreamingtree said, it's a nonissue. You're outside for 4-5 days so you're bound to see a couple, but I wouldn't let it hinder your experience let alone keep you from going. Have fun! Can't wait for everyone to get here!!!!

Eh, just keep your tent zipped and you'll be fine. If you're still worried, get some area bug spray and put it down around your site before you set up. That should keep them away. Just be kind to your neighbors when spraying that stuff: it is poison and I for one wouldn't want to breathe it.
I got bit by a spider at Roo last year. Granted, I sleep under an ez-up on a cot, so I'm not as protected. But it didn't ruin my time, didn't hurt, and honestly I didn't notice for a while. Had to get some antibiotics when I got back home but that was about it.
If seeing one little spider is going to ruin your entire trip, don't come. I hate to discourage anybody from going to Roo, because it is 100% completely worth it. But if your phobia is debilitating, you're going to have a bad time on the farm if you see one.

I have seen a couple random spiders. I don't recall seeing them every year and I have only seen them in camping. I haven't seen any dangerous ones. Just take the precautions that some others have mentioned, and you should be ok.

Don't let your friend freak you out. You will be fine. He/she was probably doing work in the woods for RLARS, which is where any ticks would be. You won't be getting ticks at Roo.

They exist but aren't too big and scary. I'd say bonnaroo is a wonderful environment for overcoming fears that hold you back. Please come and be strong and be present and we all will support you. I am super scared of jellyfish, but I won't let them stop me from Bonnarooing. But if you think you won't have a good time, I send you love and hope you find the right festival for you!
I only saw one spider last year and it was while we were setting up. I think all of the traffic and people scare them off so you'll be good! And if you see any of those tiny green grasshoppers, they're a good source of free protein!
