I have been contemplating bringing my DSLR camera to the farm this year. Every year I go without it, I just look around thinking about all the amazing shots I could be taking! I was wondering if any of you bring cameras with you, and how much of a hassle it is going into centeroo with them. I know there is a two-inch max on the lens, but I would just be bringing in my kit lens, not a major telephoto or anything.

You can bring them, but the lens can not be longer than 2inches. So just buy a cheap pancake lens and you should be good.
EDIT: Oops, just read the rest of your post. If I were you, I would hide the stock lens and take it in with the cap over the body, the security guards wont know the difference and will just think its a pancake lens.

Thanks! That's a good idea! The only other smaller lens I could bring would be my 50mm, which would be more pointless than useful.

I love my 50mm lens!
Oh, don't get me wrong, I love mine too! It's by far my favorite lens, but the ability to zoom will be invaluable at Roo!! Plus, I would cry for days if anything happened to my 50mm...
I thought about it last year, and opted not to take mine. I took a crushproof/waterproof p&s digital instead. The one I got (Olympus) has a 2.0 aperture, but I was still disappointed with the shots I got at night.
BUT, I don't think I would have been happy lugging my DSLR around. There is so much to see, don't miss it by trying to take the perfect picture of it. I would love to go to Roo as a photog, but I would want to go as a pro, not a fan.
This year, with the mud, I would leave my valuables at home.
I've gotten my nice lens into shows by hiding it between my boobs in my bra! Haha....it makes me have mono boob but I've never had anyone look twice at me. Usually I don't even take my kit lens. I just put the dslr in my bag and security either usually doesn't dig that deep on my bag or pay it no mind because there's no lens attached.

See you on the farm!
The mud has been on my mind as well...it looks pretty nasty.

HA that is too perfect!
Unfortunately, it would be painfully obvious if I tried that.

I brought mine last year, my wife smuggled the telephoto lens in and I brought my body and a 50mm, no issues once I was in, but I must say I didn't like lugging it around all day in the heat.
