Sex is what your chromosomes determines, gender is a fluid state that is determined by the person themselves, and not their chemistry.

Sex is biological - penis=male, vagina=female. Gender is identity. So a man who identifies as female, a woman who identifies as male, or something in between. So sex and gender are not always the same.
