He's back and it's about time we have a comedian hit up the What stage again. Also he wouldn't be a bad Superjam curator since he knows so many people. Either way, he needs to happen.
YESSSS!!! And I'd love to see the people that complained about how racist Ice Cube when they hear Dead Prez!!!! It would hilarious to see how offended they got because they legitimately hate white people with a passion and they are quite blatant about it.
Curious though about how a stand up set would work on the What Stage. I know Chris Rock did it in the past. But I was just wondering because usually at a stand up show everyone is quiet and laughing when it's appropriate. But with that many people that would be at the What Stage...how would that work?

It works like a charm. It was pouring rain during Chris rocks show, he was the warm up for metallica, and he killed it. He did old stuff and stuff just for roo, had the entire audience in stitches. It was actually very cathartic to be apart of such a massive gathering of people laughing their asses off like that.
Yeah. Chris Rock killed. It was my first Roo so it seemed like it was normal to me.
And if Chris Rock killed it, imagine how great Chappelle would be!!
A Dave Chappelle performance on What Stage would not approach the quality level of Chris Rock in 2008. This is NOT a commentary on Dave's ability as a comedienne, but the fact that he is an improv/audience interaction based performer vs the Chris Rock, timed down to a second, act. Anyone that has attended Chappelle stand up shows pre-Chappelle show, understands the negative impact of the larger hall shows on the quality of his performance.

I was actually making that comment just based on my love for his standup and when I was making the comment, I actually considered that because I was thinking that his performance wouldn't be as good of a fit for the What Stage as Chris Rock. Could Chappelle perform in the comedy tent or would he definitely be on the What?

I honestly don't think he would be at the fest. The comedy tent is far too small and disorganized. Anyone who saw (or attempted to see) Conan a few years back knows what a true mess this can be. I think the What stage may be too large for his act (as far as intimacy, not talent). The other tents might be suitable if they had screens.

Agreed, I just really hope I get to see him some other way if he doesn't go to roo.

I hope you do, too! He pops up in the most random places (I saw him on a pretty short notice show), I'm sure he'll do a tour soon. He seems to be itching for it.

We do not speak of the Conan Fiasco of 2010.
Ever.
Or Dan'Roo will smash.
That said, I'd love Chapelle, but he's not the same as Chris Rock.

I think he's more in line with Conan... comedy tent + What Stage MC, especially if the purple one headlines

It would be hilarious if he introduced Prince dressed like 80's Prince.

Bonnaroo should be so lucky. I saw Dave in March. It was the best comedy show I've ever seen by far, and one of my favourite things I've seen live in general. He is pretty particular about where he'll play, though - and not without reason.
And can we get a Dave-curated stage? With a Block Party-style superjam?

I could see Roo having the block party superjam (IF Dave wanted to do it, but I'm not so sure he would want to at a festival) and I'd love for Dave to curate a stage BUT I feel like Dave would only want to do that if he shacked up the artists who played on the stage and I doubt that Roo would have a stage/tent with that much hip hop/r&b on one stage

Bonnaroo has had hip-hop headliners, so I definitely don't think a hip-hop stage is out of the question. Whether Dave would agree to do it is much iffier, but I think it would be brilliant.

He talked a good amount about how much he loved doing the Block Party thing from a few years ago when we saw him in NYC recently. He loved being able to work with these huge music names that he's looked up to and never thought he'd share the stage with.
I think if they really promoted it to him like that it'd be enticing. Let him "Curate" the stage and introduce two or three acts and he can do standup before, after, or in the middle.

He's definitely too big for the comedy tent, and I worry about hecklers if he were on the What. LN in a tent would be perfect, 4-6 AM, make it happen Bonnaroo!

I didn't even think of hecklers. Dave has been out of the spotlight for years, I would think he would be welcomed with open arms based on group think alone.

I think he means idiot hecklers, not unwelcoming necessarily, but the type of people who think it's hilarious to yell out lines from his show.
In the shows following this it didn't really become an issue, everyone learned from Connecticut. But a music festival crowd is a completely different beast, however if they were able to convince him to come I'm sure Dave would be aware of it. Was anyone hear at that Connecticut show? I would love to hear your account and thoughts on that show.
