This festival makes me feel so musically stupid...you know, like a redneck, but one who actually cares about becoming more cultured.
You shouldn't feel like that at all. You're trying to learn about what it is they are throwing at you. "Expanding your musical palate" and all that. I actually got on a discussion about the name Big Ears, last year. How I interpret it that you end up opening your ears. Or something along that lines.

I'm out of the loop. In what way are these acts being teased?
On Big Ears facebook. For example, they shared that video from the Bad Plus with, "The Bad Plus reimagines Tears for Fears' “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” as only they can, and it’s the perfect start to our Monday." We are just assuming they are teasing acts due to the history of how AC does things. In addition, when they pushed back the date for the lineup announcement, they referenced teasing acts between then and the announcement. They're not 100% by any stretch. It would just be odd for them to be sharing acts that haven't played the festival before two weeks before the lineup announcement for no particular reason.
