Have you seen the kind of numbers he gets compared to Festival Snob? Last summer they were around the same. Now Owl has 4x as many likes on facebook. You may think that's meaningless, but then you would be wrong. Facebook likes are the forefront of modern advertising. Even more so than you may think.
How is the number of facebook likes/followers relevant? What should matter is if their information is useful, accurate, and up-to-date. If you visit the Festive Owl's website, the news/rumors section is looks like it hasn't been updated in months. And to be honest, many of the rumors Festive Owl mentions turn out to be false/unreliable. Besides, have you seen the people who frequent festival Facebook pages? It's a cesspool of ill-informed, unintelligent, and hypocritical morons.
The kind of people that visit the pages are irrelevant. Owl is getting more... A lot more actually. Again I think you are underestimating how much Facebook likes really weigh. It's okay though, I don't really care. I'm just making fun of Internet cool guy Phi.

Edit: To be clear, most of the time, neither one has especially ground-breaking inside information to share. But from what I've seen regarding the accuracy of festival rumors, I place more trust in Festival Snobs than Festive Owl

Then I finally just said, "dude they already announced the after parties for Hampton Va.. Clearly that's where its going to be." Then he called me a liar until I posted a screen shot from Aurora Entertainment announcing the after parties.

Since facebook changed their algorithm for who sees pages post, web views are much more important. Using 10,000 for example, only 500 of those may see the facebook post now where a year ago it was available to all.

He also peddled the rumor the Lana Del Rey was "extremely likely" for Bonnaroo. If I recall, he also listed Foster the People, Childish Gambino, and Young the Giant as rumored for Bonnaroo last year. He doesn't seem to care much about credibility.

Hahaha oh man these past few pages have been so much fun to catch up on.
And let's be clear about something, the only reason "Festive Owl" has so many FB "Likes", is because last year he "gave away" 4 tickets to Bonnaroo, 2 tickets to a sold out Hangout, and tickets to Midtown. The "way you won" is by tagging all your FB friends, making them like Festive Owl, sharing, etc, all to get "additional entries" when there was clearly no way possible to calculate all the entries.
And yes I'm using "quotes" because the ticket giveaways were faker than my 15inch dick.

I called him out on it a long time ago and he said he "contacted them privately" and didnt want to "reveal their name due to security concerns". When I asked him how he was able to calculate all the thousands of entries from people sharing, tagging friends, following on FB, RT on Twitter, etc, he told me that "Festive Owl" had a programmer who wrote a code to calculate everything, hahahahahaha.

Probably not. I have friends who work for a blog with much more exposure than either Snob or Owl and they still can't get Press for Roo.
I'm not sure what the requirement is for regular press credentials for Roo, but a photo pass requires 100k unique web visitors per month.
I know the guys tha handle the official photo team for Bonnaroo, on the application for a photo pass you do need to provide proof of web traffic if you are wanting press/photo passes. But there is also a fair amount subjectivity to getting them to. They prefer print outlets to just an online presence, and your reputation does help in that regard. A trend in photo passes I have noticed is some festivals issuing photo passes that just allow you to bring in your camera but no access to the pit. That sucks for a lot of people but it is to keep the pit from overcrowding. Some headliners will only allow select people in the pit...photo pass or not...and sometimes the ones allowed in a pit have to split the first three songs. Group one gets a song and half...

You're talking about a festival where Billy Joel is headlining. I don't think "outdated" is in their vocabulary. They used MySpace to announce the lineup in 2010, about 6 years after people stopped using MySpace.

It is about exposure the coverage will get. Usually if you are big enough to be in print you will have a large online audience as well. There are just so many online blogs and websites to accommodate them all. That is why reputation and networking is that much more important these days. It was always important, but more so now, I believe.

There are just so many online blogs and websites to accommodate them all. That is why reputation and networking is that much more important these days. It was always important, but more so now, I believe.

They could have put that up to discourage many small blogs from applying so they don't have to sort through as many. Completely agree on the networking and reputation aspects you both mentioned.
Still wondering why any of this matters. I am just shocked no one is talking about how they said the lineup is going to be released next week which I am super excited about.
